Sen. Mark Warner (D., Va.) could be facing a tough reelection campaign next year, according to a Washington Free Beacon poll of Virginia voters conducted last week.
Fifty percent of Virginians said that Warner should be reelected against a generic candidate; 45 percent saying they would elect someone new. By a 49 to 43 percent margin, Independents said they would rather have a different senator than stick with Warner.
Regionally, Warner is over 50 percent only in Northern Virginia, while 63 percent of residents in Shenandoah favor the nameless, faceless new candidate.
The poll suggests that President Barack Obamas dropping approval ratings amidst the disastrous Obamacare roll out are extending to Warner. Obamas total disapproval in Virginia stands at 51 percent. Although his approval rating in Virginia (47 percent) is higher than the Gallup average (41 percent), 44 percent of voters strongly disapprove of Obamas job performance.
Fifty-two percent of Virginians have an unfavorable view of the Affordable Care Act, including 45 percent who strongly oppose the law.
The health care law is impacting Warners favorability. The poll shows that Warners once high approval ratings have dropped significantly. When he left the Virginias governor office in 2008 Warner had a 70 percent approval rating. His approval now stands at 58 percent.
Kellyanne Conway, whose firm the Polling Company, Inc. conducted the survey on behalf of the Washington Free Beacon, said Warner is decidedly vulnerable in 2014.
Obamacare and Obama are the real albatross around these candidates necks in 2014, she said. The problem for Warner, not unlike some of his other colleagues up for reelection in other states, is that theyve never been held to account in front of the voters for their support on Obamacare. The last time he ran was in 2008, Obamacare passed in March 2010.
Liz Cheney COULD have cleaned his clock. Whoever ADVISED her to go after a REPUBLICAN in WYOMING is REALLY AN ASS!!!
I hope the whole Obama class that was swept into power in the 2008 election is swept right back out:
Hagan, Shaheen, Merkely, Udall, Udall, Franken, Begich and Warner. Top that off with Landrieu and Pryor. And I saw a poll yesterday that Durbin is only polling at 51%. Maybe a tide can sweep him out too!
Bet that ass who told Liz Cheney to run in WY was Karl Rove
Long past time to vote the B@$T@RD out!
Yeah, Warner’s known about this for a month.
There was a private ObamaCare briefing held for Dem Senators in mid-October where he, Franken and Shaheen pretty much flipped out on the Obama flunky sent to blow smoke up their a**es. If this election turns on Obamacare, at least two of them (plus at least four of the five Red State Drms usually talked about will go. I figure at least one of the remaining eight “safer” Dems will fall too. For a net GOP pickup of at least 7 seats.
I wonder since Kelly usually polls for Republican Woman canidates if she is not polling on Comstock’s behalf?
“Regionally, Warner is over 50 percent only in Northern Virginia, while 63 percent of residents in Shenandoah favor the nameless, faceless new candidate.”
Good indication that the great Virginia is ripe to be split into at least two states.
This geographic divide manifests in many larger states. The metros control the state, and the folks in the rural regions are left to simply be pulled into the undertow of socialism.
Praying we have Sen Ken Cuccinelli instead of Sen Mark Warner.....just saying
Incumbents frequently look worse against a no-name candidate than against a name. Plug some people in there and run the poll again and see how you do.
I think that she decided that all on her own.
Agree. Dumbass decision. I wouldn’t say Warner is exactly vulnerable. 50% is good ground, but he can’t afford to sink much further.
BTTT
I hope so but I no longer trust the people of Virginia.
Cuccinelli, who was good enough to win as Attorney General was stabbed in the back by Republican establishment types who wanted their own boy in. The very electable Cuccinelli was vilified as “unelectable” by an establishment who never accepts the right of party members to select candidates. If you don’t back their boy then they will ensure that your boy (or girl) will lose - regardless of the consequences for the party, the state or the nation.
He’s only vulnerable if the opposition will put the screws to him...
Always problematic in VA politics...
When Warner was shilling for Obozocare before it’s passage, he used the
“Health and Welfare” ? Clause as a justification...
Total nanny state, we know better than you excuse...
Nail him to the wall with it....
I, for one, am in for a split!
Dumb question from 600 miles away:
If a noxious crook like McAwful can get elected, why wouldn’t this guy?
