**SNIP**

That's down from the 301 vehicles towed on the first day last year and up from the 215 towed on Dec. 1 in 2011, according to Molly Poppe, a spokeswoman for the city's Department of Streets and Sanitation.

Snow ban I understand, but winter parking ban? Why don’t they ban it all year? Make more money that way.

Mind you, there was no snow - not a flake on the ground.

Crooked to the bone. A means of raising revenue for the city, and an income boost for tow truck companies, who probably have bribed the right people.

Chicago, my kind of town (sang Frank Sinatra).

The word “ransom” comes to mind.

In my city (Pittsburgh, PA), we had free parking on Friday because of the holiday the day before.

Milwaukee does this too. Dozens of cars held ransom for hours. Happened to me once. I spent 4 hours at the yard waiting for my car because it was misplaced. Vs the 2-3 hour wait normally. The place was full of poor folks who were out of work for the day due to the revenue scheme.

Nice revenue generator.

They make more money by catching the public unaware each Fall when the parking ban goes into effect. The city makes money. The politically connected car towing companies make money. The public be damned.

The amazing thing about this “revenue generator” is that people actually get their cars back although I understand that that is not always the case. Can you imagine getting you’re Porsche/BMW/Accura, etc. towed and never seeing it again? Now THAT could be a revenue generator for certain.

Can I avoid that if I already rent an alderman and a couple ward bosses? Or does the towing company get priority because they pay more into the “system”?
