Watchdog groups criticize White House secrecy over Obamacare event
Washington Examiner ^ | December 4, 2013 | Susan Crabtree

".......Advocates for greater government transparency said they find the secrecy surrounding the names and stories of the individuals standing behind the president Tuesday odd, especially considering Obama's pledge to run the most transparent administration in his history.

“[It] seems totally bizarre,” said Melanie Sloan, the executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. “Posing behind the president at a press event isn't a good way to preserve anonymity.”

....The botched rollout of healthcare.gov and Obama’s broken promise that consumers could keep their health plans despite new Obamacare rules have seen the president’s approval rating hit new lows in numerous polls. Americans are also giving Obama record-low marks on his trustworthiness and ability to manage the government.

Bill Allison, the editorial director of the Sunlight Foundation and a veteran investigative journalist, said the problem with the president's Tuesday event wasn't limited to the secrecy surrounding the people who stood behind the president.

To regain the American people's trust, Allison said, the president needs to hold more press conferences in which he takes questions from reporters.

“The president needs to level with the American people about what went wrong with the website, who's to blame and how he'll fix it,” Allison said. “And he needs to do it at a press conference where he can be questioned.”

“Having a staged event with cheering, mostly anonymous beneficiaries of the act, is not going to restore anyone's confidence in the administration,” he added. “The fact that they won't release the names suggests, that once again, the White House is hiding something.”

The secrecy surrounding Tuesday is inviting comparisons to an Oct. 21 event that was intended to reassure the public about the Obamacare rollout, but instead turned into an embarrassment for the White House........

The media needs to do investigative reporting and publish it. The media is more inclined to protect Obama by follow the AP's example of hiding from the public Obama's secret talks (ongoing for a year - as far as we "know") with Iran.

Pull the other one.

Waiting around, whining for Barack Obama and his administration to tell the truth at some magical press conference isn't going to cut it.

I find it completely consistent with the way Obama follows most of his pledges, from "my plan will create jobs" to "if you like it, you can keep your insurance/doctor". The only time he has not lied was when he promised to fundamentally transform America, which used to be a free country.

I think ‘news media’ is a relatively unfitting term for the current crowd. We need to invent something that fits with professional cheerleader journalists with no investigative ability. It’s almost like watching local TV journalists covering a high school basketball game, and writing six lines over the score and highlights. We could hire Peruvian barbers who could do just as good a job as most of the ABC journalists.

I’m pretty sure they were just some random people, basically dragged in off the street.

But still, if he said Republicans should “check with them”, well I guess he needs to reveal their identities.

This guy is such a loser, we knew he was a loser, and I can’t believe we’re stuck with him for another long three years.

“.......The effort to reduce inequality is not just one goal among many, Obama continued. For his administration, it is the goal. “It has been the driving force between [sic] everything we’ve done these past five years,” Obama said. “And over the course of the next year and for the rest of my presidency, that’s where you should expect my administration to focus all our efforts.”...........

It is like one of the article/thread titles I saw yesterday here which stated, “Obama said he was going to focus on jobs, I just didn’t realize that meant he would make it harder to get one...”

“.....Cincinatti Wife’s comment about odumbo, “I can’t believe we’re stuck with him for another long three years.”.

I can’t believe that someone hasn’t resolved that problem some time ago. Congress certainly has had numerous opportunities to REMOVE him from office. Pick a few reasons and start with TREASON, plus there are numerous more.

Oct. 21 event that was intended to reassure the public about the Obamacare rollout, but instead turned into an embarrassment for the White House........

Hussein has been an embarrassment to this office since uttering "We are five days away from fundamentally transforming Amerika"

The Crisisocracy of 'Change' is here and is not small, there's far more to come, and it's ruining the whole economy, as planned. Now what are we going to do with it, now that the 'Hope' has past it's use-by date? By the time the drones wake up to the reality, it will be far too late to fix. Great strategy, if one is evil incarnate caring nothing for this country.

It's like watching a horror movie of a bloody train wreck in ultra slow motion. People in the rear cars still casually reading the fiction in the New York Slimes fish wrap while the folks in the front cars are slamming into the seat backs as the water gushes in. No one in the rear car hears a single scream. And tomorrow's Slimes labels the screamers as haters.

Well, I think I can clear up some of the mystery WRT who exactly was standing behind Boobama.

There’s mug shots hanging in the post office-—couple of them are among the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted.

3 years? I will be surprised when he leaves office in 3 years, let alone not dead from natural causes.

I agree, for whatever reason the media has abdicated their First Amendment Rights. The media needs to be just as transparent as they are finally now demanding this President to be. While the media complains, they are also complicit in perpetuating the fraud of 0bamacare and this administration.

“Pick a few reasons and start with TREASON, plus there are numerous more.”

Point of order: I think you have to be an actual citizen for treason to apply.
