Sen. Ted Cruz said while there are some differences between President Barack Obama and former Cuban leader Fidel Castro, Obama is displaying “dictatorial” tendencies as president.
During an interview by Jorge Ramos on Fusion, the Texas Republican was asked about comments his father has made comparing Obama to Castro and whether the analogy was “fair” and if he’d like to draw a distinction between the two.
“Obviously, there are enormous differences; the United States is not imprisoning and torturing political dissidents,” Cruz said on Wednesday. “But the point my father was making, he was focusing on a sentence that President Obama used in the last two State of the Union addresses where he said, ‘If Congress doesn’t act, I will.’”
Cruz said the line shows how the Obama administration has displayed “disturbing” tendencies similar to a dictatorship.
“One of the most disturbing aspects of the Obama presidency is the willingness of this president to disregard the law,” Cruz said, pointing to Obamacare. “If [Obamacare]’s the law of the land, the president shouldn’t keep ignoring the law. A president, under a constitutional system, doesn’t have the ability to pick and choose which laws to follow, and that’s the same pattern you see in dictatorial societies where the leader says, ‘Ignore the law. Go with the power of the president instead of the written law.’”
Cruz’s father, Rafael Cruz, fled Cuba and the Castro regime for the United States as a teenager.
In a July speech at FreedomWorks’s Free the People event, he drew comparisons between Obama and Castro.
“I think the most ominous words I’ve ever heard was in the last two State of the Union addresses, when our president said: ‘If Congress does not act, I will act unilaterally.’ Not much different than that old, bearded friend that I left behind in Cuba — governing by decree, by executive order, just like a dictator, like Fidel Castro,” Rafael Cruz said.

Earlier in the speech, he also made an apparent reference to Obama’s populist 2008 campaign messages in reference to Castro.
“I grew up in Cuba under a strong, military, oppressive dictatorship. So as a teenager, I found myself involved in a revolution. I remember during that time, a young, charismatic leader rose up, talking about ‘hope’ and ‘change.’ His name was Fidel Castro,” Rafael Cruz said.

Ted Cruz Ping!
If you want on/off this ping list, please let me know.
Please beware, this is a high-volume ping list!
Castro was a decent pitcher ... anything else?
No explanation was necessary. I’m sure that both of Obama’s birth parents made horribly derogatory comments about this country and B.O. was never made to explain truthfully his relationship with a known treasonous Communist terrorist named Bill Ayers.
“I was just an 8 year old child” was a lie. The Weather Underground did not exist before the final months of 1969.
The bombing of the Pentagon was in 1972 (40 years ago last year, completely ignored during the election cycle).
The Weather Underground was still engaging in terrorism and bank robbery throughout the 70s and into the 80s.
Well, at least not as often as Cuba, yet...
Ted should have said that his father was actually being generoug to obama. The comparison really should be with Stalin.
Don’t go wobbly on us, Senator.
Impeach him, Sen Cruz. The GOP is full of talk.
No, not yet. We are just unleashing the IRS hounds of hell on them, as well as any overbearing regulatory body that can sink their teeth into them an extract fines or other forms of punishment. . . but it is only a very small step to Castro.
Obviously, there are enormous differences; the United States is not imprisoning and torturing political dissidents, Cruz said on Wednesday.
He takes the opportunity to expose the brutal Cuba regime for what it is, even though ignorant Hollywood attempts to glorify it.
But the point my father was making, he was focusing on a sentence that President Obama used in the last two State of the Union addresses where he said, If Congress doesnt act, I will. ... One of the most disturbing aspects of the Obama presidency is the willingness of this president to disregard the law, Cruz said, pointing to Obamacare. If [Obamacare]s the law of the land, the president shouldnt keep ignoring the law. A president, under a constitutional system, doesnt have the ability to pick and choose which laws to follow, and thats the same pattern you see in dictatorial societies where the leader says, Ignore the law. Go with the power of the president instead of the written law.
And then, BAM, he smacks the would-be dictator 'king without clothes' across the face.
“So, Jorge, you have no problem with a President acting unilaterally and overridibg Congress? Get back to me in 2017, OK?”
Senate cannot impeach. That’s up to Boehner and the House.
It wouldn’t be hard, and that’s certainly something he could do, the same as any citizen.
The fact that sticks in my throat is that this IRS that is so often looked at with disdain and dispair is just people, like someone who could be your neighbor. That such persons are willing for jobs/money to be lords over other citizens for just a job is really sickening but in this day and age such can be expected from Obama and his enablers.
wow.....Ted Cruz sure does know how to focus and define an argument.
Please Ted: Be careful what you say. They are looking to trap you boy, don’t give them ammunition.
Obama and Castro are not alike. Castro is straight.
The Senate votes on impeachment too
the democrat Senate saved Bill Clinton
Harry Reid and the democrat Senate would never vote to impeach democrat Obama
We agree that Harry Reid & this Senate will never convict Obama of anything. The Senate does not have any part in impeachment. When the president's case arrives before the Senate he is ALREADY impeached....called into question
The Senate votes on whether he is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors.
Clinton was impeached.
Clinton was not found guilty of the crimes with which he was charged.
