Liberals Claim Obama Has Reduced National Deficit By 50%
Political Realities ^ | 12/08/13 | LD Jackson

Posted on 12/08/2013 4:19:46 AM PST by LD Jackson

There are some stories that are just too good to ignore. Time would escape me to write about all the nonsensical lies coming out of liberal land, but this one is really priceless. Thanks to Cry and Howl for pointing me to this piece from a blog that is clearly trying to sell a lie to the American people. It makes the claim that President Obama has reduced the national deficit by 50%. Let me explain why that is nothing but a load of hogwash. The title of the post is "NATIONAL DEFICIT DROPS 50% UNDER OBAMA ADMINISTRATION!". I'll come back to why that is interesting in a moment.

American Liberal Times - The Obama Administration has cut the national debt in half but the Republicans and assorted Right-Wing types are still screaming and catter-wallering about this administration’s “Run Away” spending.
I'll spare you the rest of the post, as it is nothing more than a bashing of conservatives and the "previous administration". for the spend-happy ways. In reality, that's what the post is really about, not the national deficit or the national debt. He used it as a launching pad to bash President Bush and the Republicans. He should have named the post "Any Excuse To Bash Bush Will Do". At any rate, the author of the post is evidently unaware that the national deficit and the national debt are not the same thing. Let's look at the facts, shall we.

The national deficit is how much money our government spends over and above what it takes into the treasury. As you can see in the chart below, it's quite a sum of money.

[caption id="attachment_14661" align="aligncenter" width="639"]National Deficit Source: Congressional Budget Office, Treasury Department[/caption]

Just for the record and in case the chart is too hard to read, the national deficit was just over $400 billion in 2008. In 2009, it was right at $1.4 trillion. This was due, in large part, to the massive stimulus spending undertaken by President Obama and his liberal friends in Congress. It has declined since that time, but it is still well above the levels we saw during the Bush administration. To make the claim that Obama has reduced the national deficit by 50% is ludicrous and I will not allow it to go unchallenged.

I'll be the first to admit that President George W. Bush was no true fiscal conservative. I would point out, however, that he was faced with situations that few modern presidents have had to deal with. That doesn't make him a fiscal conservative, but it does help explain, at least partially, why his administration spent so much money. Regardless if you like him or not, you can not ignore those facts.

On the other hand, President Obama has done nothing but blame Bush for his woes as President, fiscal and otherwise. I've always heard it said, numbers do not lie. As much as he tries to lie his way out of the box, with his liberal supporters backing him up every step of the way, President Obama can not ignore the numbers.

His administration is spending more money than they are taking in, thus driving the national deficit up by billions of dollars. As a result, the national debt was at $16.7 trillion in October. It was $10.6 trillion when he took office in 2009. That's an increase of 57%. As much as President Obama would like us to ignore these numbers, they tell the tale of a President who has spent more money than any previous holder of that office.

So let’s see if I get this right. I start out being $100 in debt so I tell everyone to work harder and give me $10 which adds up to $10,000. I use the money for Christmas gifts that I hand out to ‘buddies’ but repay half of it in 5 years bu am still 100 times more in debt than when I started and plan to borrow more. Isn’t that about the gist of it?

Wow. Gracie Allen should be the president’s press secretary, she uses the same type of logic.

This is sorta like praising Zero for improvements by drowning your dog in 4 feet of water this year where last year he drowned your cat in 8 feet of water.

This asshat will have added in the vicinity of $10 trillion to the debt by the end of his second term. That is an absolutely unfathomable amount of money. The damage this has caused our nation for the long term is incalculable.

Meaninmgless title, equally meaningless subject;

According to BING dictionary, defifit = 1.excessive amount spent: - the amount by which expenditures exceed income or budget ..

And according to dictionary.com

"the amount by which an actual sum is lower than that expected or required"

And then the article goes right into talking about the debt.

No wonder people don't know nor understand anything.

If a "proposed budget" called for 3 billion MORE in spending but only 1.5 billion MORE was spent, the deficit is reduced 50%, but we spent 1.5 billion MORE than last year.

woman's logic ... honey, we saved a hundred bucks (on the purchase of a two dollar item, normally selling for 2 hundred, but the "sale" "reduced" it to 1 hundred.)

see?

SAVED a hundred bucks.

Wonder how much of that was driven by sequestration which wouldn't have happened if Barry had his choice.

This is like praising Clinton for the budget improvements after a Republican congress was elected in his second term and reduced spending.

It’s as if you buy the most expensive RV you can find although you are already in debt and you are screaming you can’t afford it.
Four years later you pay off the payments for the RV but your credit card use is still much higher than 4 years earlier, so you boast to your wife that due to your money management skills you are now paying half as what you were during your RV pay off years.

Here’s the way it works. If I go out this month and blow $1200 on a lawn tractor using a credit card, then go out next month and drop $600 on an outboard motor in the same manner I can legitimately go to my wife and say that I’ve cut my credit card spending by 50%.

Right?

Somehow I don’t think that’ll fly with Mrs. Tanknetter ...

All socialists (like America’s Democrat Party) are actually communists who are unconscious as to their true political position. Since they rightly belong in the corner of Lenin and Stalin they lie as all communists do and, as all communists, are naive and stupid.

Once you get past the obvious lie you have to consider that fact that the deficit has dropped only because of the Republican controlled House of Representatives. If the Democrats controlled the House the deficit would be off the charts.
