I urge Protestants to read the Bible as well. I was flamed by many non-Catholics here who claimed that the following saying of Jesus' was an invention of the Catholic Church, and not contained in the Bible:
"if he will not listen to the church, treat him as a pagan or tax collector."
Ignorance of Scripture is not limited to Catholics.
That, in my opinion, was your first mistake.

You know what Bill? I think the only mistake here is mine....for watching your TV program for too long. You have become an insufferable boor and an arrogant buffoon. You are so full of your own self-importance, that you are not even interesting or entertaining anymore. I can barely hear your guests speak because you insist on speaking over them and interrupting them before they can answer your questions and from the audible noise you make while patting yourself on the back all the time.

I think a person can be versed in scripture but unless they see & hear with “spiritual” eyes & ears, they just don’t get it.
I didn’t imply that ignorance of Scripture was only for Catholics - I was simply making a statement referring to BOR.
Here is the entire Scripture you are referring to: It is found in the Book of Matthew - who, was a TAX COLLECTOR. Jesus was chided by the Jews for having fellowship with TAX COLLECTORS. I will leave this up to you to do your own research on the entire meaning of this verse. As I’ve said, you can’t take one Scripture out of context, but must look at it in light of other Scriptures:
“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” (Matthew 18:15-18 RSV)
Actually, Bill is a Catholic....and a recent survey found that only 30-something % agreed with Phil's statement...and thus the Bible. He is obviously in the 60-something % that doesn't believe the Bible...or the Church's teachings. Which is why so many Catholics are pro-choice...and democrat.
He is so full of himself that he wants to take all the above and shape "the folks" to accept HIS idea of what they are.
While he finds an acorn once in a while, most of his views are off the mark, offensive, beyond rationality and just plain wrong.

Homosexuals are in effect demanding that their choice of sexual partner is equally valid. It’s not. Logistically, that choice eliminates procreation. Morally, that choice goes against the Word of God. Physically, it is disgusting and dangerous to the body. To NOT judge it in this manner is itself ideologically perverse.

BOR has been very disingenuous in his characterization of Phil’s comments. While Phil did not articulate it very well, he attempted to drive home the point that we are ALL sinners and will end up in hell without accepting Christ. BOR tries to spin it that homos are the ONLY ones he condemned, and that is a bald-faced lie.

Frankly I believe the comedic character of Ted Baxter had more credibility than BOR.
I don't watch the blowhard anymore, but I happened across his opening monologue last night. My temper got the best of me and I was yelling at the TV. My husband walked in and said, "Just turn the idiot off...for good."
O'Reilly will never be on my screen again. He said that "demonizing" homosexuals is demeaning and insulting, and encourages violence against them. He reminded the audience that he wrote a book on Jesus, so he is an authority on what He would do. He is a complete fool.
Ted Baxter strikes again.
