Matt Lewis writes of the controversy over Duck Dynasty that "There really are two Americas" and that the divide over the show "has as much to do with class and geography and culture and attitude as it does with religion."
That's true. Specifically, there's one America where comparing homosexuality to bestiality is considered acceptable, and another where it is rude and offensive.
In one America, it's OK to say this of gays and lesbians: "Theyre full of murder, envy, strife, hatred. They are insolent, arrogant, God-haters. They are heartless, they are faithless, they are senseless, they are ruthless. They invent ways of doing evil." In the other America, you're not supposed to say that.
There's one America where it's OK to say this about black people in the Jim Crow-era South: "Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues." There's another America where that statement is considered to reflect ignorance and insensitivity. In one America, it's OK to attribute the Pearl Harbor attacks to Shinto Buddhists' failure to accept Jesus. In the other America, that is not OK.
There are two Americas, one of which is better than the other. And it's instructive who's sticking up for the worse America.
The conservative politicians who are complaining that Phil Robertson's firing flies in the face of "free speech" are generally smart enough to understand that Robertson doesn't actually have a legal right to be on A&E. When Sarah Palin and her cohorts talk about the importance of "free speech," they mean something much more specific: That the sorts of things that Robertson said are not the sorts of things a private employer should want to fire someone for saying.....

He has previously worked as a Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research, as a real estate banker for Wells Fargo, and as the lead writer for the Ticker, an economics and politics blog hosted by Bloomberg L.P. He has a bachelor's degree in psychology from Harvard.
He appears regularly on Bloomberg Television and has appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO and on All In with Chris Hayes on MSNBC. In early 2013, he was a prominent supporter of the trillion dollar coin, although by late 2013 he had changed his mind. Time named Barro's Twitter feed one of "The 140 Best Twitter Feeds of 2013", one of ten in the Politics category. In 2012, Forbes selected him as one of the "30 Under 30" media "brightest stars under the age of 30", and David Brooks listed him as part of the "vibrant and increasingly influential center-right conversation." A former aide of Barack Obama named Barro among a short list of the President's favorite columnists.
Barro describes himself as a neoliberal and a Republican but has expressed opposition to many policies of the Republican Party. He has been described by others as conservative, liberal and libertarian.
Barro lives in Queens, New York. He is gay and has written in support of gay marriage. His father is macroeconomist Robert Barro.

You know...God also considers lying to be a sin, in addition to homosexuality.
There aren't two Americas.
There is an America and an Anti-America.
Liberals/Progressives are the latter.
And who, pray tell is calling this guy a conservative? Maybe Pajama Boy would...
“Barro describes himself as a neoliberal and a Republican but has expressed opposition to many policies of the Republican Party.”
What I want to see is a Democrat who expresses opposition to many policies of the Democratic Party. Of course, the Democratic Party would punish them if they actually did exist.
Yes, and too all the FR sad sacks who sound like they’re a keystroke away from pulling the trigger, there ARE two Americas, the Hollyweird head fake and what’s below the iceberg. It keeps silent but it is there far more than most realize. Duck Dynasty is huge here...and I live in a Democrat county. People are real tired of gays, Muslims, and all the other PC crap Hollyweird pushes on them.
Agreed! I would like to know EXACTLY WHO ever blamed Pearl Harbor on Shinto Buddhists’ refusing to convert to Christianity? I suppose the fact that they worshiped the Emperor as a god, was irrelevant? /s This fruit is NUTS!
There is only good and evil.
Neither is dependent upon geography.
Nope. One America with an enemy media. One day, we will tire of your games and starve you all.
Yet another Left-leaning piece from BI.
he’s probably right, it’s worse than bestiality
They have to set-up fake conservatives like Josh here, David “NYT house conservative” Brooks, Michael Smerconish, David “journ-o-list” Weigel, Jennifer Rubin, Kathleen Parker and the like to attack conservatives from within their own lines.
When we let God back into His rightful place in our lives, then everything else will start to go into its rightful place too.
I blame Pearl Harbor on the Germans...
And no doubt in Barro’s world, the anus is better than the vagina.
Indeed. I’m ready for some set-up fake liberals to attack liberals from within their own lines.
Eventually, as history teaches - the “better” nation is going to declare criminal and illegal, those whom they deem “the other” and a bloodbath is going to ensue.
Sadly - if it were not more self-evident - this grand experiment known as America is OVER. There is no possible way to co-exist with beliefs and ideas anathema to both God and liberty - which is where our nation originated.
Sin and evil will always seek to subjugate - by force if necessary, and Christians keep deceiving themselves into thinking we can abide together and call ourselves one people.
Just ask any Christian living in a society dominated by a faith other than theirs.
Nero fiddled, B Hussein golfed. To each his own.
The leftist “Slate” meets the leftist “Business Insider”. This was a loser from the first word of the first sentence.
