HIPPA laws allow the family to tell the hospital to not release any patient information. That's why the hospital can not give out any information.
How do I know about the blood clot issue. Unfortunately I dare not reveal my source.

You are blaming the family for HIPPA laws. Do you actually think this family was responsible for those laws? Isn’t it kind of vile for you to attack this family over something they have no control over?

Usually HIPPA laws are used by medical facilities as a cudgel to beat the family. I have seen nursing home staff scream at an eldercare attorney that they couldn’t talk about the patient that the attorney represented because of HIPPA. Basically, they interpret HIPPA to mean that their patients are their property.
