Days After Taylor Swift Grants Wish, Young Fan Dies of Leukemia
Yahoo.com ^ | Dec 27, 2013 | Craig Rosen - Our Country

Delaney "Laney" Ann Brown died on Christmas from complications from leukemia, five days after her 8th birthday.

It was on her birthday, Dec. 20, that Brown made headlines when she received a phone call from Taylor Swift, who had heard about Brown's struggle with leukemia through Make- A-Wish America. Brown lived in West Reading, Pennsylvania, just down the road from Reading, where Swift was born.

The pair had a conversation via Facetime, so they could see each other while they spoke; and judging from a post on Facebook, fulfilling the "bucket list" item put a smile on the young girl's face.

"Laney was so nervous to talk to her because she is such a 'famous celebrity.' I was actually worried that when Taylor Facetimed her that she would be too scared to talk but Taylor was fabulous!! She really engaged Laney in conversation," reads the Facebook post (which is not attributed, but appears to have been written by one of Brown's parents). "Laney lit up and had a huge smile on her face. I can't thank Taylor enough for taking time out from her family to make Laney's birthday very memorable. We will hold that memory in our hearts forever."

This is a tough read, but at least the girl was made happy for a day...

I hear lots of people raging on Taylor Swift but I've talked with several fans who go to her concerts and stand in line to get to talk to her in person and they all are amazed at how good she is with each and every person. And she makes sure they all get some goodies to take home and if mom and dad are along they get stuff too.

And if the one on one meetings start running overtime she still stays and makes sure all the fans in line get their time with her. Supposedly one place she was at started turning off the lights and would not relent so she moved the whole ordeal to the parking lot using her tour bus as the meeting spot.

More celebs need to follow her lead especially if the fans involved are kids!

To be honest, I don’t follow these things much at all. But the little I do know about her, she seems to be one of the rare few decent young entertainers around today. And one who hasn’t resorted to acting like a slut to get more attention.

Me too. I don't know anything about her, and I don't follow the music scene - but from the little I've seen, she comes across as a level headed, decent, good-hearted, kid. Not the spoiled egomaniacs that seem to get foisted as entertainers.

I do hold it against her that she didn't mace that Kenyan West character when he mugged her on the Grammy stage and grabbed her award. But I suppose she didn't see it coming.

I had the pleasure to meet Taylor Swift when she was giving free concerts for the publicity. I am not the least bit surprised that she is has let her natural affinities for fans to lead her this direction.

Anyone looking for a worthwhile charity to which to donate could do worse than The Make-a-Wish Foundation: http://wish.org/about-us

This sweet suffering child went to Jesus on His birthday. I can't for a moment think that was a "coincidence." Rest in peace, dear Laney. God is with you. ♥

Thanks, Jack.

Make certain your donation is NOT to Children's Wish Foundation of Atlanta, Georgia, which pretends to do the same thing as Make-a-Wish.

Children's Wish is ranked the third worst charity in the U.S. regarding how much of the money collected is actually used for the cause.

Remember: Make-a-Wish and NEVER Children's Wish.

The list for the top 20 most generous celebrities just came out and Taylor Swift’s name was pretty close to the top if not #1. I’m not a big fan of her music (not country enough for me) but I think she must be a pretty good person. We’ve got too many of the Miley Cyrus type “celebs”....

Didn't she start out pretty normal? Before she, like most of them it seems these days, turned slutty? I suspect their managers or whoever, talk them into doing it in order to become more popular, and make more cash, for both of them.
