I also prefer twitter for all the reasons you mentioned. Facebook is akin to getting that dreaded four page Christmas letter from a relative every day of the week.

OTOH, Facebook put the four-page-Christmas-letter people out of business. Howie Carr used to read them on WRKO, every Christmas. It was one of the best shows of the year. This year he only received one entry.
