(vanity) Counting down to new KEIB 1150 Los Angeles
1150 Patriot ^ | 12/30/13 | raccoonradio

Posted on 12/30/2013 7:06:42 AM PST by raccoonradio

The website for progressive talk KTLK AM 1150 in Los Angeles now redirects to a countdown clock, for in a couple days they will become 1150 The Patriot with conservative talk. The new call letters will be KEIB, as in Excellence in Broadcasting. They'll have Glenn Beck (6a), Rush Limbaugh (9a), Sean Hannity (noon) etc. Clear Channel is making KFI 640 in a local-talk type of operation.

Progressive talk is now in tatters as they will lost stations in NY, LA, and San Fran. The NY station is WWRL AM 1600, which will switch to Spanish language programming. Also WOR 710 (Clear Channel owned) will pick up Rush, Sean, the Mets, etc. (Still no word on who the 12-3 host on WABC 660, owned by Cumulus, will be.)

It was said earlier in the month by Radio Insight that: "In San Francisco, Limbaugh will move from 910 KKSF to 960 KNEW. KNEW will drop its mix of Liberal, Business, and Advice hosts to go all Conservative Talk branded as “Right Radio“. Sean Hannity will move to KNEW as well from Cumulus’ 560 KSFO, while Glenn Beck will remain in mornings.

The Vast Right Wing conspiracy moves on. Again, conservative talk winds up on The Patriot KEIB AM 1150 in L.A. and 960 KNEW San Fran, and as libtalk disappears from WWRL 1600 NYC, Rush and Sean move down the dial from 770 WABC to 710 WOR.

“Clear Channel is making KFI 640 in a local-talk type of operation.”

I don’t know what that means. Will Rush still be on 640/KFI?

WWRL used to be "The Voice of Harlem", pretty much all soul music, all the time. I still remember Reverend Ike's Sunday night broadcasts. "GOD DOESN'T WANT YOUR ONE-DOLLAR BILL, God doesn't want your five-dollar bill, your ten, your twenty. GOD WANTS YOUR FIFTY, YOUR HUNDRED DOLLAR BILL!" He more or less promised that in return God would reward you seven fold. If you gave God fifty dollars, you were certain to win the numbers game (this is before the state muscled the mob out of the numbers racket) for $350 dollars! Actually, Reverend Ike's choir was quite good.

Conveniently, God had a mail drop at 4140 Broadway, New York, NY 10033, where the devout and pious could send cash.

Rush will be on KFI for a week or two more, simulcast, but then will only be on 1150 KEIB.

LA Times: “KFI will switch to all-local programming, and the vacated Limbaugh block will be filled by hosts Bill Handel and Bill Carroll. Handel’s show will run from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., and Carroll’s from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.”

What ever happened to Air America?

Why is it that, when liberals lecture us about how wonderful liberalsim is, that liberal talk radio never does well??? If so many people are liberal, then why doesn’t liberal talk radio get good ratings???

Re: Rush off of 640/KFI

Wow - what a lame decision — no one can take that much of Bill Handel imo. Watch their numbers drop.. drop ...drop.

As usual their few listeners are complaining about it on the facebook page (KTLK, to be KEIB) which may wind up being wiped clean to start again in two days.

>>I’m going to assume that the owners (probably new owners) figure they can make more $ putting on overweight, misogynists and giving them access to even more public air. OK. But, I just blew you off my “Favorites,” moved on and found another progressive radio station.
(Not new owners. Clear Channel.)

>>The repugnant Republican’ts are gearing up for 2014 in L.A. We HAD only ONE progressive talk radio station, KTLK AM 1150, operated by Clear Channel which is owned by Mitt Romney.

(Wrong.)

>>I just listened to KTLK playing several “The Patriot” promos over a Bill Maher monologue. How useless. I’m guessing master control consists of one employee trying to run all of Clear Channel’s L.A. stations at once. Can’t wait to delete 1150 from every one of my radios on New Year’s Day!

>>I will not listen after the second of January

BUT:
>>I’m really excited for the new lineup next year.

>>OUTSTANDING!! I’m looking forward to the new lineup.

And going back to the lefties, Kimberley Edwards says:

>>KTLK will now become yet another one of the thousands of right wing propaganda outlets in this country. You can hear Randi Rhodes, Stephanie Miller, Thom Hartmann, Ed Schultz and others you haven’t even heard yet by downloading a free I Heart Radio app on both computers and smartphones. Randi is on I Heart Radio, Stephanie and others can be heard on “The Revolution” (great progressive station) out of Asheville via I heart Radio. We have to make this leap and abandon AM entirely. They’re insisting on forcing Limbaugh, Beck and Hannity on the audiences of both liberal LA and SF, so let the fossils choke on it - time to shift to internet radio now. And don’t forget to “unlike” KTLK. May “The Hateriot - Diseased American Values” go down with a wimper as soon as it starts.

It was really funny reading the DU thread on this topic yesterday. They have only the dimmest understanding of basic economics, so they were trying to sort out how and why this happened. The theories mostly consisted of the Koch Brothers, Mitt Romney, corporatists, and I forget now who else deciding that "progressive" talk radio was going to be eliminated.

One of the funnier parts was them telling each other various websites and podcasts where they could catch these broadcasts, and then whistling past the graveyard by saying that broadcast radio is a dying medium, and that everyone will be going to Sirius or the web for their media soon. Uh huh.

Dang...Rush is leaving KFI...WOW.

I remember being able to pick up KFI via my tooth fillings when I was stationed at March (a year or two ago, admittedly). Remember when PCSing to Robins (GA), I picked that station up all the way to Phoenix.

And as for Bill Handel...I seem to remember him being an irritating lawyer who loved radio so much he paid for a show on Saturday. So they're giving him a 5 day a week slot? Either he's improved vastly or KFI is desperate.

For the more important data.

KFI's Daytime radiation pattern:

KFI Nighttime:

KTLK Daytime:

KTLK Nighttime:

In other words, looks like it is going to really suck for Rush fans in Riverside/San Bernadino counties. What station is going to pick him up out there?

It’s funny how the liberals say that they are forcing Rush, Hannity, etc. on everyone.

But if they get good ratings, and it’s profitable to carry these programs, then the stations will do well with talkers such as Rush.

Air America went out of business. Air America had just a small fraction of the audience gained by Rush, Hannity, et.al.

Could it be that middle America just doesn’t want to listen to ranting of Randi Rhodes and Ed Schulz types??? Could it be that middle America wants to hear reasoned honest discussions of the issues of the day?

I heard Randi Rhodes once, continually saying Bush was the “worst......president......ever”, without any reasoning behind her opinion. If liberal talk is just mindless bumper sticker statements, without any discussion of why people have these opinions, then I can see why liberal talk has failed.

I’ve been listening to KFI 640 for years. Handel will chase many away. Carroll is a little better, but they will pay for letting Rush go. I guess they figure it’s worth it.

How much influence does Clear Channel have?

That pretty much eliminates any need for having KFI on my cars tuner. KFI will now be all liberal BS all the time.

IMO Lib Talk fails because there is no way to sell advertising for it. An audience full of people who hate capitalism is singularly unappealing to advertisers.

I checked the station last week to see if I could get a good signal (I can) and listened to a host talking to someone about starting a business and the challenges.

At first I thought they had made the change already until it turned out the guy was opening a marijuana dispensary in Colorado.

The host was happy for him and wished him the best of luck...

KFI 640 becomes "local talk" . . . .

The "Fairness Doctrine".. it's ba-a-a-a-a-ck only this time it's called "Localism".

"...leftists, rather than openly pursue a new Fairness Doctrine, now seek to achieve the same basic outcome by exploiting a vague FCC rule called 'localism.'"

There's also the matter of self-imposed "Fairness Doctrine" where owners and hosts actually believe "experts" who say that the public is turned off by political talk and criticism of PRESIDENT! Obama.
