Jim Moran to announce retirement
Politico ^ | 1/15/2014 | JAKE SHERMAN

Posted on 01/15/2014 5:37:01 AM PST by markomalley

Virginia Democratic Rep. Jim Moran will retire after 23 years in the House, according to multiple Democratic sources.

The retirement is the third for Democrats this week: on Monday, Rep. George Miller (Calif.) said he would leave Congress after 40 years and Rep. Bill Owens (N.Y.) announced Tuesday he would forgo re-election in 2014.

Moran’s northern Virginia seat is heavily Democratic, and is unlikely to be competitive in November: President Barack Obama won 68 percent of the vote in both 2012 and 2008, and Moran coasted with 65 percent of the vote in 2012. The Democratic primary is expected to be competitive, though, since Moran has had a hold on the district since 1991.

Moran, a longtime former Alexandria, Va., city official, is expected to make the announcement Wednesday morning, according to party sources.

Steny Hoyer is a perfect example of someone who has “grown in office.” When he first came in he was a Reagan Democrat. Now he is a hard core Leninist. I know him slightly, he is my congresscritter and I would not, uh, spit on him if he was on fire.

He is an interesting conundrum, being that he is personally an upstanding guy and there has never been even a whiff of scandal around him, yet he is evil to the core politically.

I suspect if you had said it in Pat Troy’s you wouldn’t have had to buy a drink the rest of the night...maybe.

Along with Murtha, he called US Marines "murderers" without justification (RE Haditha, Iraq 2006). Not stupid but evil.

Link from a 2006 account at FR.

This is a Safe Dem seat, I believe, so it'll just be another crook.

No kidding. Always preferred Pat Troy’s (Before that Irelands Own) over Murphys. Never failed to sit at Reagan’s table, if it was available.

Waaaaaaaaay back when, hubs played on Pat Troy’s sponsored soft ball team...we all ended up at the bar. I famously met hubs’ ex-girl friend there.
Ahem.....
And loved the Ronaldus Magnus table...hubs was the White House staffer for Reagan....
good times.

Moran's resignation speech ticked off a laundry list of his (gag) Senate accomplishments ---- but n-o-t even o-n-c-e did Sen Moron mention "Obamacare."

After all, Obamacare is THE signature legislation of his president. O/Care was touted as the centerpiece of Democrats' winning reelection strategy ....... b/c Americans just love it to death.

Plus Senate Democrats passed Obamacare with an HISTORIC straight-party-line vote. A poignant demonstration of lock-stepping party loyalty not seen since 1940's era Europe.

============================================

ROTFL......O/care/Democrats.....the biggest joke of the decade.
