Singing River Mall in Gautier Mississippi is virtually empty of stores. The company operating the nearby shipyard has taken over about half the mall for office space beyond Penny's and I think Sears, the two anchor stores, nothing else much is open other than a Chikfilet.

Natchez Mall Penny's is a small store in a small but very pleasant older mall.

I wonder if the suburban mall is an endangered species in the US.

I know here in my corner of Europe, they’re doing good. There’s two in my town of 300,000 and a new tržnice - essentially, something like a flea market with multiple vendors - will open early this summer in a long-defunct steel mill that’s being renovated.

A major mall is opening right across the border in Poland this year, this spring.

But I think that shopping malls may be on the way out in the USA.

“Singing River Mall in Gautier Mississippi is virtually empty of stores.”

Here in NJ we have a large, brand-new mall complete with an indoor ski slope that never opened (it was completed a few years ago). The Xanadu Mall will be seen by the world next month (unless it is carefully avoided by the cameras) as it sits next to Giants Stadium (where the Super Bowl will be played).
