Officials say it could take days to repair a massive sinkhole that has opened up in downtown Detroit.
The sinkhole, which opened up Saturday just blocks away from the North American International Auto Show, is now about 14 feet deep, WJBK reports.
Traffic in the area is being disrupted as crews work to fix the hole, which is 10 feet wide, according to WWJ-AM.

If it spreads large enough, problem solved.
Look at some old maps and you’ll probably find out it was a big fill area that has now collapsed due to ???
I wouldn't really call it a sinkhole...
If Detroit is still there, the sinkhole isn’t big enough.
Pretty common in northern cities this time of year and Detroit actually seem to have them a whole lot.

It is curious that both of these continually burning sites are in Muslim countries.
Plenty of good insulation available for inside pipes exposed to cold.

Question: Temps here in Pa dropping fast tonight....is there a special way to run it? Hot? Cold Both? and for how long?
I will be leaving cupboard doors open also but still...I was frozen for two days and nights in this last chill.

It's been years...But I think I ran them both to open them up and the heat from the hot pipe helped to warm the cold pipe.
I think I let it trickle during the daytime.
If I had to do it again, I'd look into insulation sleeves. This was all in the upstairs bathroom so part of the pipe was behind a wall.
If your pipes are exposed...look into the sleeves.
Best advice..ask at Lowes or someplace like that.

This "sink hole" resulted from the Chapin Mine cave in and rapidly filled with water. The city of Iron Mountain grew around and over the mine. The new lake bisected the city until a new bridge was built to carry traffic from highways 141 & US 2.

Thanks....If it freezes it will be from the basement area where pipes are. One side of the building is exposed to the road. Though I’m still not sure it was here or the city. There were three breaks in my neighborhood last round...water line, gas line and sewer line in three different areas within a few blocks.
My furthest bathroom faucet is dripping right now to prevent it from freezing. I have a well but the main line runs the length of the house along the outside wall and can freeze if it gets cold enough.
I’ll also throw a load of laundry in the washer right before I go to bed to run the water on and off for a little while just to be sure.
Thanks...looks like a steady stream should work here to keep it from freezing...he made a point to say NOT a dripping faucet.
