House Republicans to Offer Broad Immigration Plan
NY Times ^ | 1/25/14 | ASHLEY PARKER and JONATHAN WEISMAN

House Republicans are preparing to unveil their own broad template for overhauling the nation’s immigration system this week, potentially offering a small opening for President Obama and congressional Democrats to pass bipartisan legislation before the end of the year.

Speaker John A. Boehner of Ohio and other Republican leaders are expected to release a one-page statement of immigration principles this week at their annual retreat in Cambridge, Md., according to aides with knowledge of the plan. The document is expected to call for border security and enforcement measures, as well as providing a path to legal status — but not citizenship — for many of the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country, the aides said.

The Republican effort comes as Mr. Obama is expected to push once again for an overhaul of the immigration system in his State of the Union address Tuesday, and as lawmakers from both parties describe immigration as one of the few potential areas for bipartisan compromise before the end of the current Congress.

You live in a capitalist country. Money is #1 priority in a capitalist country. Might as well accept the reality.

No, n00b...money is NOT the #1 priority in a capitalist country - and it darn well shouldn't be for our elected representatives. You seem to have something against capitalist countries. Why is that?

House “Republicans” should give free suicide lessons. That’s all they seem to know.

You would be surprised how many uninformed voters oppose amnesty but still vote for candidates backing amnesty. They are none to bright in the USA.

[ They are not committing suicide. They are following in the footsteps of Judas Iscariot.

On second thought,..... you may just have a point! ]

It will end with a rope and a tree.....

Sadly probably with America hanging on the end of that rope...

Folks, just remember this when you see your fellow Freepers telling you that they will vote GOP “No matter what” and that “Lesser evil” is needed because “The Dem is worse.”

The time to decide where you stand on the GOP is now. Today. Not in November when the No matter what/Lesser evil idiots are trying to scare you into voting for another liberal.

Plenty of us here on FR have taken an insane amount of crap for our ‘purist’ stance, when in fact, we have adhered to the old 80% philosophy. We understand that many of you don’t want to get into the public screaming matches that follow the lesser evil brigade around.

Stop being silent and HELP US. Your silence allows them to HELP elect more of the people giving us amnesty, HELP strip vets of benefits and HELP destroy what’s left of the country you claim you love. Give them, and by association, their GOP plantation masters no support or encouragement. Rather, tell them loudly and clearly, “Go to Hell”.

Where did you get that idea? I was born a capitalist, lived my entire career as a capitalist, and will die a capitalist. Having actually lived in a quasi-socialist country, I chose capitalism over all other forms, knowing nothing is perfect. But I am sad over the slow march towards socialism in this country now.

Obama and the Dems will demand a path to citizenship, welfare, and voting rights for the illegals here.

All correct remedies, but who is going to do it? First we have to win elections. The way our system operates, elections have huge consequences. Snow in July has a better chance than Obama & Holder doing what you wish. Wishful thinking and posting on boards is not going to do it. Do everything possible to help elect the right kind of candidates. Send every dime you can spare to them. Wear out your shoes and telephone. Become a precinct captain. Been there, done that. More people needed to do the same.

Power in this country comes through elections. Obama and Holder and the 55 senators have the power. Elections have huge consequences in this country.

Huh, Conservative/Tea Party voters give Republicans the majority in congress and pro amnesty neoStatists like Ken Langone somehow have more influence in the GOP.

We do not have the money in the treasury to keep paying them the “benefits” they collect either. Given the choice, it is probably cheaper to deport them than it is to continue to pay them “benefits”. I think the smart thing to do is to stop paying them to stay and start very publicly arresting employers who routinely hire illegal aliens. I think many will leave on their own if those things happen. Then there will not be 30 million or whatever the number is to deal with.
