One CIA Lawyer Could've Stopped Waterboarding Before It Started, Here's Why He Didn't
ABC News ^ | January 31, 2014 | By LEE FERRAN

On Sept. 11, 2001, while a hijacked plane was still unaccounted for, the CIA headquarters was evacuated.

But like several officers and analysts in the building, John Rizzo, one of the Agency's top attorneys at the time, didn't move. Instead, took out a yellow legal pad and began drafting the legal justifications for what he had already predicted would be a "full-scale assault on al Qaeda [which would] employ all means necessary to prevent any further attacks on the homeland."

... But it was down to Rizzo to decide how far American interrogators could go, and his decision would affect the way America would conduct its War on Terror for years.

Rizzo said he considered the "nightmare scenario" in which another attack strikes the homeland and Zubaydah "gleefully tells his CIA handlers he knew all about it."

"In the final analysis, I could not countenance the thought of having to live with that," he writes.

I don't know if you remember the movie or not, but it was a real hoot. Don't know why, but this reminded me of it.

I don't believe I have ever seen that movie but I do like those old Sci-Fi thrillers.

I've tried to find it on the net based on your description but no luck so far.

If you recall the name let us know.

How in the wide wide world of sports did a ridiculous dork like that become president!?!

That is the scary part!

One day, God willing, Obama will be out of power one way or the other.

But the Morlocks who put him in office will still be out there, breathing, mooching, reproducing and voting.

“...How in the wide wide world of sports did a ridiculous dork like that become president!...”

Because a whole lot of ridiculous dorks voted for him.

I work with guys who were aircrew on -52s, -141s, etc. We had this almost exact discussion, back in the day when it was THE news topic du jour. Some lib engineer brought it up within earshot, got all self-righteous and indignant, and the SPEED with which my buddies bitchslapped him down and put the argument to bed was truly record-breaking.

Every one of those guys said the same thing about SERE and waterboarding.

100% and good on them! sure it's unpleasant, but so was the smacky-face that came along with it to give them a real, if small, taste of what to expect if ever captured...

I’m not sure if my graphic is showing up on everyone elses computer. It is “They Live”. If you can see that graphic, click on it and you’ll be taken to IMBD. There you can read a bit about it.

iTunes does have an SD version they’re selling. It’s fairly decent quality, but it is SD.

Thanks NFHale. Say can you see my graphic on post 22? A few folks are stopping to tell me the name of the movie, and I placed a small photo that was linked to more about the move.

I appreciate you folks telling me the name. If I didn’t have it, it would have been a big help.

My pleasure. Take care...

It’s not an a+ movie, but it’s not what I’d call a B movie either. I enjoyed it. If you’re into sci-fi, I think you’ll get a kick out of it.

Our vantage point, not being big government fans, I think you’ll see some interesting analogies in there.

I took my iPad and viewed the post. There was a square where the graphic should be, and the link worked. I can understand why others didn’t see it. Oops.
