NEW BOOK ANNOUNCEMENT - "When There is No FEMA"
self ^ | Feb 1, 2014 | self

Posted on 01/31/2014 9:42:25 PM PST by The Duke

Hi All,

This posting is to announce the publication of my new book "When There is No FEMA - Survival for Normal People in (Very) Abnormal Times". Before posting this I coordinated with JimRob to receive guidance on how to do this properly.

This professional, textbook-quality, 500+ page book represents the culmination of 3 years of painstaking research and authorship, and is intended to be the definitive reference for anyone interested in modern day disaster preparedness. Topics covered include:

One noteworthy and unique chapter provides a detailed action list and charter for instantly organizing a group, neighborhood or small town to survive a worst-case scenario. Another provides the most thorough treatment of personal and family disaster planning to be found anywhere.

By visiting the book's web site and clicking the 'Free Preview' button (or by clicking on the link below) you can begin to appreciate exactly what it has to offer and how it stands out among modern day survival books.

Web Site: http://nofema.com/
Book Preview Link: http://nofema.com/NoFemaPreview.pdf

Between now and Feb 8, 2014 any Freeper may visit the web site and enter the coupon code 'freep0214b' at checkout to obtain a 25% discount when purchasing the book. Each book shipped will be signed by the author (me) and ALL PROFITS from sales using this coupon code will go to Free Republic (at this point I'm just interested in getting this book into as many hands as possible).

Happy Prepping!

I put heart and soul into it.

Yuck. Doesn't that make the pages stick together?

;-)

Seriously, I am most definitely looking forward to studying it and learning from it.

"Thank you for your hard work. I am getting one for sure. Perhaps a few for a few neighbors."

Neighbors and family, even the ones, especially the ones, who think I am nuts for prepping.

Why would anyone write a book comparing anything to FEMA? FEMA has been a useless organization for which there is nothing to compare.

Looked through the PDF . . . Your book looks good! Thorough. I ordered one. Don’t disappoint me! ;)--------------------------->

Can you self-publicate - sounds dirty but I think you know what I mean!

Can you distribute it by yourself and cut out the middleman? If stores choose not to buy up on the books, start with self publication - maybe the publishers and book stores will get the message.

Hi All,

First of all, I've got to get those profits from that announcement to JimRob..so thanks to recent posters for getting me out of procrastination mode.

CodeToad> The book is not about "comparing" anything to FEMA. It's meant to suggest to "rank and file" citizens that they should not rely on FEMA to come rushing over the hill in time of disasster (as history has repeatedly demonstrated).

hummingbird> I've received only very positive reviews from those who have provided feedback, so I'm sure you'll be quite pleased. I wrote the book as if I was going to need it to survive myself (which may very well prove to be the case with the current news of the day).

Hetty_Fauxvert> Thanks for asking the question about publication...this is something I proceeded with very carefully (and the method varies from author-to-author). I decided to publish and promote the book myself so that I wasn't paying someone else for doing it, and I have been very pleased with the results. Right now I only sell the book from my nofema.com web site.

The book was developed using the same 'LaTeX' publishing software that is used to produce college textbooks. The result is that it "looks and reads" much more like a professionally-produced book than many books in the genre (the bibliography alone is 19 pages of small print!). I'm producing the book from CreateSpace.com (owned by Amazon), which I can't recommend enough for those who are self-publishing (however, lulu.com is worth considering if you want to publish electronically).

I'm happy to report that the profits of $375 generated from book sales from this thread have just found their way to Free Republic.

Anyone on this thread who ordered a book please feel free to provide feedback here.

BTW, I decided to "self-publicate" because the mainstream publishers just wanted too much of the sales. I thought to myself that my oldest son, just graduated from college, could use the money more than the publishing company.

As I got into the process I started to believe that the traditional channels for selling books may really be antiquated.

If you ever plan to publish your own work then I would be happy to provide more details about getting things ramped up. (I've gotten pretty good at the marketing side of the equation too.)

RE> FWIW, I have previously purchased “A Failure of Civility” which is far more of a ‘force of arms’ and governance/organizing text. I took that book apart physically and turned it into a tabbed notebook - an SOP manual on my shelf.

That was worth a lot to me. I grabbed up the Kindle copy of “A Failure of Civility”, which is so far a great read. Thanks for that excellent pointer, Blueflag! When I reach the end, I may decide to get a hard copy as well. I am getting great prepping guidance from “When There is No FEMA”. I highly recommend this book.

Just one more reason to get prepared. Since this original post I’ve relocated my household to rural west TN in anticipation of difficult times.

I should also mention that my book has been well-received and currently has a 5-star rating on Amazon. :)

Thanks much for the wonderful endorsement of my book, Blam. Since going to print it’s been well-received (which is good because I really put heart-and-soul into it over 3 years of writing).

I have friends that I have given preparedness type books to for Christmas the last 5-6 years.
This is a good one with which to continue that custom.
