No, it's becasue of a misunderstanding of the Book of Genesis in the Bible. Beginning with Genesis 1:3 is an account of what we call "creation," really a re-creation and can be traced to about 6000 years. The earth was already there. Before Genesis 1:3 was Genesis 1:1: "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." Nobody knows how long ago the earth was created.

No, it is based on a fair reading of the Bible and believing and understanding that it IS the Word of God. This includes Genesis, as well as the record of God's Word to Moses and the people of Israel when He spoke to them from the Holy Mount (Exodus 20: '...In six days the Lord made Heaven and Earth...'), as well as references from the Lord Jesus who vouched for the authenticity of the Law and the Prophets, who said at the beginning of Creation God made man and woman, who spoke of Noah and the Flood as reality.

There actually is much evidence for a <4.6B year old Earth.

Since Jesus never corrected Genesis, nor any book of the Tankh, He must have believed that the Earth was only approximately 4,000 years old, when He walked the Earth. A Christian believes that Jesus is the second person of the Trinity, God, and that God is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. If you believe that Jesus was mistaken or lied, then you are doubting that He is God.

By your own words, you are calling Jesus 'dumb and UNTHINKING'. If you call yourself a Christian, you would be wise to re-examine your beliefs. If you call yourself a non-Christian, you've got even bigger problems and would be wise to examine the Bible.
