They're called "African-Americans" in Australia???? According to this article,
Police have described the alleged offender as of caucasian appearance with black or brown hair, about 178cm in height, of slim build and wearing a white T-shirt and long blue pants.
I think, more likely, the perp worships the Moon God, whose Prophet was a child molester.

They're called "African-Americans" in Australia???? Not normally. Unless an accent was heard or there was some other specific indication they were American. Generally the media here would use the term 'African' or 'of African appearance'.
If some versions of the article say 'African-American', that's pretty sloppy reporting - but it happens.
And for the record, the Australian Daily Telegraph (the biggest selling newspaper in Sydney) is completely separate from the British Daily Telegraph - it's just one of those common newspaper names that tends to get used over and over again.

"...African-American..." I am unable to find that descriptor in the linked post.
Can you provide a link to where that phrase is used for this article?

Apparently, it's been edited since you saw it. Now what I see is:
The men are all described as being of African appearance and aged in their late teens to early 20s and police say people in the community must know the men responsible.
