I can’t find any evidence of this. In fact, I find no donations by her to Republicans for Choice, though I find them for others, and I find her donations to Republican candidates.
Yes NFHale, she was a classic throughout her life.
None of the angst brought on by other young actresses of the day. She kept her head and was a model citizen.
Now SHE, will be missed.
Did you know she made an incredible amount of movies in just two years? While watching TNT years ago, I learned she had made something like 20 movies in just two year.
She was so great at learning her lines, that when the adult actors forgot theirs, she told them what theirs were.
That 20 figure may be somewhat inaccurate, since it has been a long time since I heard it, but when I did originally hear it, I was taken aback by the number.
The golden age of Hollywood wasn’t that golden. But that said yes she seemed to have had a fairly good adulthood unlike a lot of child stars. The obvious comparison would be Judy Garland whose adulthood was less than stellar at least off screen and did not stay sober.
Getting hooked on diet pills given to her (Garland), by the studio, had something to do with her problems later in life.
Gotta admit, brother... my heart is very heavy hearing of her passing.
I mean, I know we don’t live forever... We get 76 to 85 trips around the sun, typically, and in that time we’re allotted, we have certain things to accomplish that our Creator expects of us.
Some of do accomplish those things; and some accomplish even MORE than what’s required.
That little curly-headed actress brought a lot of joy and happiness to people throughout some seriously dark periods of the country. And then when she grew up, she did good work as well.
I can’t think of ANYTHING in the way of “giving something back” that is remotely close to that.
Yeah... she will be missed. She really was part of “The Greatest Generation”.
Maybe mores so than just a part. She may even have been that generation’s heart, soul, and Bluebird of Happiness.
The beauty of those movies she made, is that they are just as magical today as when they were first aired. They’re amazing.

Can’t find anything on the web anymore, but I am 100% positive Shirley Temple Black was involved with “Republicans for Choice” about twenty years ago.
Maybe you are thinking of someone else. She ran as a conservative.
I won’t question your memory. As I said, it’s possible Mrs. Black had a change of heart. There also could have been an effort to “scrub” her bio so that the membership wouldn’t show up — for political reasons such as a run for office in a highly conservative region.
Anyway, don’t sweat it. She’s in God’s hands now.
Nothing about it was romantic or escapist, as everyone like to brand the films released before that war's end.
It may be because that particular film was so dominated by Jennifer Jones and Myrna Loy her talent seemed to have been overwhelmed to some degree.
And the film is overwhelming, as it certainly had to have been to the first run audiences in 1944. To say that it hit close to home is an understatement.
Even Monty Wooley was somber. One has to either be heartless, dangerously detached from history not to get teared up, watching that film, even as melodramatic as it was.
I guess Mickey Rooney must be feeling the wall closing in, about now. And that made me think of "The Human Comedy," another home-front WWII film that goes under-rated.
