SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Shirley Temple, the dimpled, curly-haired child star who sang, danced, sobbed and grinned her way into the hearts of Depression-era moviegoers, has died, according to publicist Cheryl Kagan. She was 85.
Temple, known in private life as Shirley Temple Black, died Monday night at about 11 p.m. at her home near San Francisco. She was surrounded by family members and caregivers, Kagan said.

She was an ambassador too I think...
She acted so long before my time that it seems like she should have died a long time ago. Perceptions are tricky.
An original, a powerful force with curls, dimples - singing and tap dancing into so many hearts.
I smile as I think of her now. So talented and so sweet. God rest her soul.
One of the greatest child actresses in history. And a master of tap.
I grew up going to her movies!
When I was growing up in Santa Monica, she lived about a block away, and had a fish pond in her front yard. Went there when 7 to go fishing with a diaper pin and string. Got thrown off property. So later went to Linda Darnell’s house accross the street and turned her parents turtles up side down. Had to go back to apologise.
So we moved to Oregon:-) Still think she was a class act. Not like the current celebs.
Ironic that she acted during the great Depression and died during the second great Depression
I have watched her films many many times and they always cheer me up
RIP

I betting that she tap danced her way right up to the gates!
Prayers for her and her family.
Is this a new internet trend? A celebrity death report, then reported as a hoax, then turned out it wasn’t. I’m also thinking of Philip Seymour Hoffman.

I was thinking China - article says Czeckoslovakie.
I had a nice blue Shirley Temple glass I drank my milk from all during WWII.
Must have been one heck of a line! :)
RIP Curly Top.
My appreciation for Shirley Temple movies was always a guilty secret. Couldn’t let the guys know that I liked Shirley Temple, could I?
Found this;

“A false report of her death in Hirohito’s Japan in 1943 set off a wild celebration in the streets.”

I remember a scene from one of her movies where she sings “Auld Lang Sine” at the funeral of her friend Sgt. McDuff.
I have to admit my eyes were a little wet after she finished.
Yes, she was the US Ambassador to Ghana (Ford Administration) and Czechoslovakia (Bush 41 Administration).
And I bet she could have run circles around those three clowns Obama sent up for confirmation hearings last week. She was a true professional who took the job of representing her country seriously.
RIP.
I don’t drink alcohol but I do get “double Shirley Temples” when drinking with friends, at bars, etc!
