Cognitive dissonance. Reality is not allowed to intrude, anywhere, anytime.
It takes a LOT of heat to melt a vast quantity of snow, first converting it to liquid water, then evaporating the liquid to become water vapor. Conversely, all of this heat has to be LOST, mostly by radiation off to outer space, on the side AWAY from the sun, before the water vapor may fall again as rain or snow.
Thermodynamics has three rules - starting with one premise.
The premise is, you must play the game.
•The First Law says you can’t win.
•The Second Law says the best you can do is to break even.
•The Third Law says you can only break even at absolute zero.
Or restated:
•First: You can’t win.
•Second: You can’t break even, except on a very cold day.
•Third: It doesn’t get that cold, even in Wisconsin.
