The first wave of Tea Party lawmakers strode into Congress in 2011 on a wave of denial and anger. They were angry at President Obama and business as usual in Washington. But they were also in denial about their power—or rather powerlessness—to change it.

Three years later, the right-wingers have progressed through the stages of grief (which are not real, incidentally, when it comes to grieving). Now, in the debt-ceiling debate currently under way in Washington, we have proof they’ve reached the final stage: acceptance.

The article is the MSM version of the political landscape. It is interesting in that it outlines what the Democrats and the MSM think. It doesn't answer the question in the title.

The real question that should be asked is why are the Republicans surrendering on EVERYTHING.

Is this moron excited that we are now 18 Trillon dollars in debt with a 2 trillion dollar deficit looming for the next year?

Are the democrats really happy that we are sliding into bankruptcy?

They are not even merely surrendering... they’ve bought the farm.

They have NOT voted on a debt ceiling... what they’ve done is voted to NOT HAVE a debt ceiling. At least for the next 13 months.

The tea party folk have learned that before they can defeat the Dems, they have to defeat the quislings in their own party. So, step by step.
