-—— what has caused polio-like paralysis——
unvaccinated illegal Mexican children are the vector
I believe this has been ruled out as being poliomyelitis (Polio) but is another newly identified strain of enterovirus. If that is the case, then the polio vaccination probably wouldnt give immunity to this newly identified or possibly mutated strain. It is interesting to note that strains of enterovirus are also responsible for Hand Foot and Mouth disease and Acute Hemorrhagic Conjunctivitis something I had in 2004 not fun!
As far as taking supplements, like good quality vitamins c and d, at therapeutic doses I dont think there is much medical evidence to support this, that taking them will prevent viral infections. It might not help but then again it probably wouldnt be harmful, doesnt hurt except if overdone. But excessive doses of vitamin D and C can be harmful - too much of anything can be. Most of us, unless we have some sort of illness that causes vitamin deficiencies, get plenty of the vitamins and minerals necessary for maintaining good health through eating a well balanced diet and most of the excess taken via supplements are excreted through the urine (i.e. you are literally pissing your money away).
Getting Too Much of Vitamins And Minerals

That so far doesnt appear to be the case. FWIW, Mexico actually has a higher rate of childhood vaccinations than the US.
Mexico more effective than U.S. at immunizing children

There have been no reported cases of Polio in Mexico in many, many years. That is not the case however with Afghanistan, Syria, Pakistan, Nigeria and several African countries.
