Spelling issues aside, I was thinking about the song itself. Remember it came out in 1967. O was only 5 or 6 yrs old when his white mother whisks him off to Indonesia for the next 4 yrs. The song itself is meaningless to him. Just like his “black” identity. He was raised by a white woman with white grandparents. He is forever trying to “get in touch” with the black side of which he knows nothing about. Neither he nor his family were “down for the struggle” in the race riots of 1967 through ‘70 or ‘71. Ughhh!
