Colombia’s vice president has a great excuse for refusing office: His dog
The Washington Post ^ | 3-19-14 | Joshua Partlow

Instantly putting himself in the running for political candor awards, Colombian Vice President Angelino Garzon eschewed the tired spend-more-time-with-my-family cliche and went with a much rarer reason for turning down a government job: His dog would get too hot.

Garzon had been nominated to be Colombia’s ambassador to Brazil, but apparently the Amazon nation’s tropical climate would not suit his beloved German shepherd, Orion. In an interview with Colombia’s Semana magazine, Garzon said that he had a “very hairy” dog and that Brasilia’s weather might “harm him.”

“This is not a dog of the vice-presidency of the republic, it’s a family dog,” Garzon told reporters. "Wherever Angelino Garzon goes, the dog goes."

I wouldn’t want to inflict my presidency on my dog either.

Imagine the caterwallin that would result from the first pic of my dog sleeping on the desk in the Oval Office.

A politician who understands that dog serves as man’s best friend, rather than being served as a meal.

I don't get what the big deal would be, it's not like a littel pussy hasn't already lain on the desk, pussy cat I meant, yeah, yeah that's the ticket!

Your dog, maybe future President, looks a lot like my dearly departed Logan, he was a Lab-Chow mix. I always told people I adopted a black dog to show how open-minded I was.

Is that an Australian Shepherd? I just adopted a Golden Retriever mix from a rescue group and I think he’s part AS, so I’ve been researching them recently.
