On Ukraine, Obama’s Munich Moment
Time ^ | April 1, 2014 | Garry Kasparov

Do not fall for any Western attempts to save face, even if Obama waves a piece of paper and declares, ‘Peace for our time!’

Negotiating with another country’s territory as collateral has a long history—the most obvious example is from 1938.

Last Friday, Vladimir Putin called Barack Obama to discuss Ukraine, although what was said is different from what was heard. Analyzing the discrepancies between the White House and Kremlin press releases of these calls has become a booming industry and usually you would never guess that the reports are about the same conversation. The White House report mentions “constitutional reform and democratic elections” and Russia pulling back its troops from eastern Ukraine. The Kremlin summary refers to the “rampant extremists” in Kiev and adds the separatist Moldovan region of Transnistria to the conversation in a blatant threat to up the ante once again.

I’m more interested in a word that wasn’t mentioned in either summary: “Crimea.” It’s as if this chunk of sovereign Ukrainian territory — invaded, dominated, and annexed by Putin just weeks ago — has already ceased to be part of the conversation...

"The alternative is grim. Should Putin be allowed to keep Crimea and redraw the map of Europe so easily, he will be rooted even more deeply in power in Russia and continue to be a threat and destabilizing force in the region."

Sorry, that's a done deal.

“Sorry, that’s a done deal.”

Agreed...
The time to stop Russia from doing something like that was was lost in the US Elections.

And you STILL cannot find a lib willing to say that Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney were correct about Russia, and that Obama was utterly wrong, because MSNBC, the late-night comics, and The Daily Show haven’t told them it is OK to think that, yet.

Putin will leave office the same way Juan McQueeg will. Feet first, toes up.

Big difference in that Putin will leave Russia stronger for his efforts than he found it.

Ukraine was the Jump the Shark moment for Obama and his motly crew. A thanks to Putin for showing us this incompetent for what he is. Obama is done—Next year he will be impeached and forced out—with Biden too. I can live with president Boney until the election.

Obama will never be impeached. Republicans have no stones.

Obama was waving a piece of paper today with 7.4 million printed on it. That assumes that nobody who had signed up since October has quit, not paid or died.
