April 1, 2014 3:54 PM Democratic Senator Tells GM Car Owners to Stop Driving Immediately By Jim Geraghty
A reader sends this in and quips, Blumenthal to Michigan: Drop Dead!
CBS Connecticut: Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal is among those calling for GM to make a stronger statement and tell owners to stop driving their cars immediately. Blumenthal believes GM made a decision to hide the defect of ignition switches.
Considering the risk from the switches, Blumenthals advice isnt the most outlandish conclusion in the world. If an owner of one of the recalled cars wants to drive it at all, he should remove everything from the key chain and drive the car to the dealer, very carefully, over the smoothest roads possible, and getting the car checked out.
The problem is that weve been told for five years that General Motors was a national institution that had to be saved at all costs, including billions of taxpayer dollars. Now Democratic lawmakers are really, really eager to drop the hammer on GM for hiding the danger these cars presented to the public. That may be (and increasingly appears to be) completely justified, except the same crowd told us five years ago that all of us had to chip in to save this company, so they could keep making these cars that Blumenthal wants everyone to stop driving.
UPDATE: Fantastic. Vin Flynn notices that back in 2010, Blumenthal touted his help for General Motors in his campaign ads:

Thanks Sub-Driver.
If your HMO is run like the DMV ... you're SOL.

bttt
But they are too big to fail!!!!!!!....................
My kids got a Cobalt and hasn’t had a single problem other than normal wear.
Every time I hear this moron speak, I cry a little inside knowing people are dumb enough to vote for idiots like this.
The progressives want everyone to take public transportation.
They want everyone to live in the cities.
They want control from birth to death.
About 3 months ago the government sold its remaining GM holdings.
Seems to me, as a taxpayer, I have standing to sue the government for stock fraud and insider trading - to wit, selling its shares knowing they’d take a dive soon due to recall talk.
That was my reaction to the headline -
“yep, that’s what they’d prefer - that we stop driving”
Hey, just a question, but you think the government knew this was coming down the pike BEFORE it sold its stake?
And if it did, you think anyone is going to the Martha Stewart memorial prison block for that?
This is typical for a government owned and operated
business. I’ll leave out the unskilled union monkeys
because they are too stupid to know any better.
I remember a while back Government Motors had a problem
with gas tanks blowing up on some trucks and when they crunched the
numbers, it was cheaper to pay the lawsuits rather then
do a recall. People died but it didn’t matter.
People should stop sending info into the IRS since they leaked taxpayer info to partisan groups...treat govt like this democrat wants to treat GM.
Another Obama success story.
GM execs from the period these cars were designed and sold should be arrested and charged with negligence. 0bama by bailing out GM and then writing off billions in its investment in the company is guilty by association. If a Republican President had done what 0bama had done with GM, there would be loud cries for impeachment or worse.
Is the Tahoe affected?
Meanwhie the Whitehouse criminals shook Toyota down
Every day is one day closer to thheir end
We had a Pontiac Grand Pre - It cut off 3 times on
the highway. My mechanic very honestly did not charge me
but said he had no idea why it did that. I was in a
7-11 and asked a girl in line (she had the same car as me)
if her car cuts off. She said yeah - I spent $1800.00 and
the car still has the same trouble. I will admit I had
a huge car key ring....
