Scott Renfroe's proposal has bipartisan support.

Red light cameras and photo radar vans are hot button issues in Colorado.

Police say they make intersections and roadways safer, but many motorists insist that the cameras and radar vans are used mainly to generate revenue.

Today, Republican Senator Scott Refroe, of Greeley, introduced a bill to ban red light cameras and photo radar vans in Colorado. It’s his second attempt. The first one in 2012 went nowhere. This time, he has the backing of several prominent Democratic lawmakers

...

Refroe’s bill will be heard next week in the Senate State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee.

Ten states prohibit the use of photo radar or red-light camera enforcement, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

If the politicians, they are the ones who approve red-light cameras, really wanted to make intersections and roadways safer the simple solution is increase the yellow light timing...

Red light cameras have one and only one purpose: increase revenue.

In Tampa they just rejected the contract with the red light contractor and a week later reversed themselves...

There is a red light camera at the first intersection I hit when going to work...a side road and a 4 lane county road. I hear the camera click and flash every time I stop...

The traffic on the 4 lane road is too heavy for anyone to run a red light about 80 % of the time...

Amazingly the cross road is one of the few roads that people who live in a very high end part of town, who will simply just pay the ticket than protest it...

I guarantee not one life has been saved by the red light camera at that intersection...probably caused a few rear end accidents though..

“Catching too many illegal aliens with stolen plates, cars, unregistered vehicles, etc?

I find it hard to believe that bureaucrats and solons would voluntarily give up revenue “enhancements”.

...Dem pols with their 17-year old girlfriends(or boyfriends, as the case many be) speeding to the motel...One of those would probably bring an abrupt end to it.

As unimaginably awful as your situation was, and I’m sure, is, why do you believe that red light cameras would have made even the smallest difference to that person or the eventual outcome?

I has the same experience with a POS goober crap woman here with what was fortunately VERY MINOR accident, I’m sure, a 12th-generation goober native whose family was just too stupid to leave. After waiting 45 minutes in 15 degree weather for the local worthless donut-eaters to show up here, I felt sorry for her freezing mother who was supposedly coming home from a doctor’s appointment we agreed to settle it later. She denied later that she did it.
