I have to disagree. Although she couched her language a bit, she pretty plainly implied that:
1. There are plenty of smart people (i.e. those without southern accents) who are just as confused as the stupid people (i.e. those with southern accents) are.
2. AFP should have used smart people instead of stupid ones for their ad.
I think she implied that most people will see those with a southern accent as less intelligent.
From that, in order to be more effective, the message should have been carried by someone whom most people will see as more intelligent.
She was addressing the perception of others.
