The fact of the matter, sadly, is that the governors and legislatures of the various states have sold their souls to the federal devil. They’ve surrendered their states’ sovereignty to achieve personal power, fame and wealth at the expense of their citizens’ liberty. States could choose, at any time, to take a principled, constitutional stand against the encroachment of the federal government but they simply don’t want to.
And when you elect someone who SAYS they’re all gungho on states rights, they turn as soon as they get about one week’s worth of power and perks. In Texas they don’t get paid much, but they get perks and power. I’m thinking of a fraud who’s running for Lt. Governor. So, there is no real choice.
