Despite assurances to the contrary, the IRS didn’t destroy all of the donor lists scooped up in its tea party targeting — and a check of those lists reveals that the tax agency audited 10 percent of those donors, much higher than the audit rate for average Americans, House Republicans revealed Wednesday.
Republicans argue that the Internal Revenue Service still hasn’t come clean about the full extent of its targeting, which swept up dozens of conservative groups.
“The committee uncovered new information indicating that after groups provided the information to the IRS, nearly one in 10 donors were subject to audit,” Rep. Charles W. Boustany Jr., Louisiana Republican and chairman of the Ways and Means Committee’s oversight panel, told IRS Commissioner John Koskinen at a hearing Wednesday.
“The abuse of discretion and audit selection must be identified and stopped,” he said.
Mr. Koskinen didn’t specifically address the accusations during the hearing, and the IRS didn’t respond to a request for comment late Wednesday evening.
The revelation was made on the same day that the House voted on a nonbinding resolution asking the Justice Department to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the IRS targeting...

Imagine we are playing a game where you flip a quarter 3 times and I give you a dollar if you get 3 heads. That should happen about one time in 8 tries.
After you flip the quarter 3 times it’s my turn. For me to win a dollar from you I have to flip that same quarter 7 times and get all heads. Normally that would happen about one time in 128 tries.
When we play this game over and over you find yourself, like the Tea Party donars, slowly losing your money to me.

I continue to say this (the IRS scandal) is a much bigger deal than Benghazi. Very crassly: This affects half of all Americans, on American soil, was deliberate, arguably affected an election, and was by its nature a conspiracy, a racket, a complex violation of IRS regs. Benghazi, no doubt, might have affected the election; Benghazi affected four people, and those four could have been killed just out of massive incompetence from a security lapse. I *do* understand the coverup of Benghazi is the big issue, but from the argumentative standpoint, that attack could happened to “anyone” and the coverup didn’t kill anyone, it was just a massive lie, like so many others.
I’m not trying to sugarcoat anything. They are both egregious, but the IRS thing is an internal hijacking of the gov’t and stands as bigger deal, as least to me it does.

It is INSANE! The same agency which was used to thuggish effect to suppress the freedoms of voters is now to be used to control your healthcare destiny. INSANE! Is Boehner unable to see the potentials the democrips will use at every chance they get? INSANE!
Without a doubt vastly more Americans will have a personal reaction to the IRS scandal so I agree with you. The blowback to the Obama administration is potentially far more devastating.
