UN Convention Weighs Fears About Killer Robots

The idea of humans answering to robot overlords is a concept that has often been joked about, but with drones and other robotic technologies advancing at such a rapid pace, the notion that humans could need protection from killer robots may be no laughing matter.

As such, governments are gathering this week for a four-day session to discuss how to prevent "lethal autonomous robots," reported AFP. The debate is part of the U.N. Convention on Conventional Weapons, which is being held in Geneva, Switzerland.

"Killer robots would threaten the most fundamental of rights and principles in international law," Steve Goose, arms division director at Human Rights Watch, an international non-governmental organization, told AFP. "We don't see how these inanimate machines could understand or respect the value of life, yet they would have the power to determine when to take it away."

It's a ruse. It's quite the opposite. Their purpose for meeting is to acquire the technology for the development of "lethal autonomous robots" for use against its citizens. Governments are paranoid about citizens (with guns) as a threat to them, their control. What better device than "lethal autonomous robots" programmed to terminate rogue citizens under martial law or other emergency protocol. And most importantly, they have the resources to build just such a para-military force. Individuals or even small companies simply do not have the inherent ability to threaten governments in the manner they claim. Imagine an army of killer bots designed to quell the population at large, that can fly, drone-like, see through walls other advanced scientific capabilities with the face, image of Barry Sotero. That's at least a movie plus a couple of sequels right there.

It seems like they're gearing up for something.

Find and see the 1956 scifi movie “Target Earth”. You’ll get robots, my friends.

Arnold’s out of work, they should appoint him to head up the study.

I suggest we send over Kathleen Sebelius to head up the Russian effort. That ought to prevent any progress.

But the three laws of robotics prevent robots from harming humans.
I guess Skynet didn’t read that book. Yeah, I can see our present regime turning killer robots loose on the populace.

I’m Robert, the Robot—
All steel from head-to-toe.
So hear me: Don’t fear me!
Because I rattle so ....

Now, while I power-up my 100 megawatt laser eyes,
prepare to meet your Maker, meatbags.
