Have you ever dealt with the morons that run the facilities for trade shows?

yes, of course i have--a handful of different types of tradeshows...

but she is about an agenda... she is not about her winery and the opportunity that was presented to her as far as her family business is concerned like she is pretending... and because of that, i do not take her side...

"Young children running around."

This one couldn't run around.

The baby is under 16. If they let her in, then they invite all sorts of complaints from other participants who took the time and expense to arrange for child-care away from the trade show.

Not only child care but guess what? There are other people at that trade show and we don’t want to hear some baby crying, making baby noises while I am conducting BUSINESS in my booth that I spent a lot of money for.

How rude!!!

Why could her husband not have gone to the trade show in her place?

because she would not have a story... and then we would not be reading this article and arguing over it... it did not fit in with her agenda... her motives... her intentions...

You do know some people breast feed up to 4 years old (the more liberal types), should she have been allowed to bring her 4 year old because he was still breast feeding?

Rules are rules, I agree with the person who said she should have called to see if they could accommodate her, if not, someone who was able to attend should have taken her place.

All mothers make sacrifices (and fathers too) for their children. It’s something one expects when one has a child.

“Why could her husband not have gone to the trade show in her place?”

Her husband was there and stayed even after she left. He was the person the news interviewed at the trade show.

I’ve been to hundreds of trade shows like this and no children should be allowed. You are working with thousands of people all running around in small spaces with tons of catalogs, samples, etc. placing thousands of dollars in orders and there is no room for anyone who isn’t supposed to be there especially children who need breast feeding.

Breast feeding in public doesn’t bother me at all.

Someone making themselves an exception to a rule, does.
No one under 16 allowed.

This one couldn't run around.

Doesn't matter. They needed a CONSISTENT, CLEAR policy on children, that could be consistently enforced by security.

"No children under 16" is a clear, enforceable policy. Don't have ID showing you are over 16? You don't get in, unless you are very obviously an adult.

If I were running it, I would not want the admittance line slowed by arguments between parents and minimum-wage security guards over whether a particular child would be safe in the show. I would tell the moms "Sorry, that's the rule. No, I won't make an exception just for you. Bye."

I feel sorry for this kid having to grow up with a mother who has been spared from the ravages of intelligence.

LOL, so true.

Also something I haven’t seen mentioned....what about this 10 day-old baby’s immune system? How many people at that trade show were walking around coughing and swiping runny noses?

Concerning “God-given rights”:

1 Cor 8:9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.

1 Cor 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

Does she have a “God-given right” to feed her child in public? Yes. But if I were asked not to do something when I came to someone’s event, then I wouldn’t do it, or wouldn’t go. Do I have a “God-given right” to take a gun anywhere I want? I think so, but if you have a “no guns” sign on your front door, I might choose not to go.

In this case, it’s about politeness, or “decorum”, as one FReeper said, not life or death. She could have been the bigger person, and followed the rules.

OR - if we still lived in a SANE society, the organizers could have allowed her to stay without fearing that some ambulance-chaser would take all their money.

NO ONE is at fault here. We just have someone who assumed rules don’t apply to her, and someone who assumed they would be financially ruined if they let her stay. No-win.

If the mother runs the business and she has an infant that has to feed, then they should make an exception to their stupid rules. No one should be punished for having a child.

Thank you Petronius.
