He had previously served a term as the president of the National Eagle Scout Association. His brother was an Eagle Scout also.
The volunteer National Executive Committee of the BSA National Council, ~27 business executives, got together and made the decision. They were the ones who overruled the national volunteer survey in 2013 to place the new membership standard, i.e., open homosexual youth, measure on the ballot at the annual business meeting. They were planning in 2012 to install Randall Stephenson, CEO of AT&T, a supporter of homosexuals in BSA, as the president of the National Council at the business meeting this week. The drama from last year's meeting caused them to shift course, temporarily, and get Gates on board to soothe the ruffled feathers. Stephenson is still on deck to be inducted as president in 2016 when Gates term expires. Acceptance of open homosexual adult leaders will occur during either Gates or Stephenson's watch.
Has anyone seen membership numbers for the BSA versus a year ago?
He is an Eagle Scout. The award is not temporary.
However; I am not sure of my status as I asked them to remove me from the Eagle Scout roll and I send back my Eagle badge when they decided to cave on the homosexual issue.
