The chief of an Army medical center has been relieved of his command because of problems with patient care, and the Pentagon has ordered a review of its health care system, defense officials said.
The commander was replaced Tuesday at Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and three deputies were suspended, the Army said in a statement.
The shake-up comes after two deaths this month of patients in their 20s and problems with infection control at the facility that were pointed out in March by a hospital accreditation group, according to two defense officials. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.
Also, the Pentagon announced late Tuesday that Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel had ordered a 90-day review of the entire military health care system. He was spurred by the investigation into allegations of treatment delays at the Department of Veterans Affairs. The review will assess the quality of the health care at military treatment facilities and care the department buys from civilian providers, press secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby said.
Earlier Tuesday, a meeting was held at Womack to introduce staff to their new commander after the Army relieved Col. Steven Brewster of his position, the defense officials said.

There it is, the symbolic move. All fixed!
Yep. Now they can proceed quickly to single payer for the masses. No worries, nothing to see. Eat your peas!
Now, if only Chuckie can keep himself from crying.
I guess they found a white guy to blame.
I would be satisfied with the dismissal of Shinseki, a la Michael D. Brown.
They won’t stop here. Forging fearlessly into the throes of investigation, they’ve identified a floor nurse and a couple of bedpan-carriers that will be ruthlessly shown the door. Yesiree, these guys are On The J.O.B.!
The Army has a germ control problem in one of its hospitals. The O-6 commander is sacked. In the meantime, vets are being killed by death panels instead of treated at VA hospitals, nationwide. Shinseki still draws a paycheck. Obama, plays golf and sneaks off to Kabul in the dead of night for a photo op.
Womack Army Hospital is a part of the military health care system. It has nothing to do with the VA health care system, they are completely separate.
True, however they are both Federal facilities hampered by unions and they both use non-board certified or state licensed physicians. (Not all their physicians are bad, but some are awful.) In both systems appearances matter more than results and there is an inability to speak truth to power. The real problem is the inability to assign blame to people, rather than just processes, and to clear out those people that obstruct progress. There are ways to get things done, but it’s a hard road up hill.
The “buck” is never going to stop at “Buckwheat’s” desk. Big Momma Valerie will see to that.
Steve Brewster is a good man.
Sometimes things like this happen, no matter what you do as a commander. It’s like a ship running agound when the Captain is in the rack. You have done everything you can but one idiot ruins your career.

You’re on a roll, dearest musicman!
God love you, I truly do!
Shouldn’t the Commander in Chief also be relieved of command?
They both offer a vision into the future when Obamacare morphs into a single payer system.
I blame elitist congress people. Instead of taking all those taxpayer funded vacations they should be walking into every VA hospital and talk to all those people sitting in the waiting rooms waiting to be seen by a nurse or physician’s assistant. Visit the locations every time congress is in recess. They’re getting paid to work 365 days a year. Ask the vets what’s wrong with them? Ask them how long it took to get their appointments. Do their damn jobs. They’re the ones who approve the funding that went to bonuses based on fraud.
Active Duty ping.
