Food and energy aren't included in the inflation index, so they don't count. All of the cheap chinese crap you buy does. By government metrics, you are doing just fine by buying cars, TV’s, ipads, and dollar store crap. The inflation index apparently assumes that you do not eat, fuel your vehicle, or have basic utilities, like electricity or running water.
