The National Security Agency is making an ironic excuse for why it cant stop deleting data evidence that could be used against it, despite receiving multiple court orders to stop it doesnt know how.
Technology focused privacy group Electronic Frontier Foundation, which currently has a case pending against NSA alleging the agency illegally intercepted client data, discovered through a Justice Department email slip-up last week that the agency was deleting evidence it had already been ordered to keep by multiple courts.
After failing to comply with an order to retain data collected under both executive authority and Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act authority, DOJ claimed in March it misunderstood the order to read it only had to keep data acquired under the former. Pointing to documents proving otherwise, a FISA Court judge accused the department of attempting to mislead the court, and again ordered the retention of data in both circumstances.

I see something similar here, not unlike Melvin Udall’s description of taking away reason and accountability.

Its the law.
Why should they obey it?
Start frog marching Fed scum out of their offices in handcuffs and we'll see how fast they figure it out.
And so the government gets away with another one.
I'd say it's going to someplace off the grid, too.
Put several key high level officials in jail with no bail until they figure it out. Each day arrest a few more and toss them in the general population of Democrat voters and see how long it takes them to figure it out.
Put someone in jail. Watch how fast it stops.
Just like Obama, they are breaking the law and daring anyone to try to stop them.
They know how to spy on all of us (and keep that forever), but they don’t know how to stop deleting evidence. And I’m the King of France.
Well, some of the data is stuff they aren’t supposed to legally retain beyond a certain period. So, it does make sense that they have an automated system to delete things when they hit that date. Still, it doesn’t make sense that they can’t exclude data from automatic deletion by simply flagging it to be retained. If they can’t do that, then either someone designed a very poor system for them, or they are lying.

Defendant: “I was crazy about her yer Honor!”
