In Afghanistan the main base chow hall served turkey bacon and turkey sausage. The camp where I was billeted had it’s own chow hall and the SFC traveled to Germany and purchased the food items. He brought back Bitburger Alcohol Free, Basken Robbins (gallon cartons) and Hagendas (spelling?).

He also brought back whole frozen hogs.

Being in a unit that runs under the radar has it’s perks.

My son is also off of the main base. Maybe that is the difference. I know they eat a lot of locally sourced food. He figured the pork was “imported”. Maybe in the way you described. :-)
