Border official points gun at Boy Scout

DES MOINES, Iowa —A central Iowa Boy Scout troop just returned from a three-week trip they will likely never forget

About 10 days into the trip, an innocent action by one of the nearly two dozen Scouts at the Canadian border into Alaska set off a chain of events that lead to a U.S. border official pointing a gun at a scout’s head.

Boy Scout Troop 111 Leader Jim Fox spelled out what happened to him and the Mid-Iowa Boy Scout Troop 111 as four van-loads of Scouts and adult volunteers tried to drive from Canada into Alaska.

Fox said one of the Scouts took a picture of a border official, which spurred agents to detain everyone in that van and search them and their belongings.

“The agent immediately confiscated his camera, informed him he would be arrested, fined possibly $10,000 and 10 years in prison,” Fox said.

Fox said he was told it is a federal offense to take a picture of a federal agent.

Not wanting things to escalate, Fox said he did not complain.

Another of the Scouts was taking luggage from the top of a van to be searched when something startling happened.

“He hears a snap of a holster, turns around, and here’s this agent, both hands on a loaded pistol, pointing at the young man’s head,” Fox explained.

Fox said that had them all in fear.

Ultimately no one was hurt or arrested, and after about four hours they were allowed to continue their trip into Alaska.

When he thinks about what happened to them and the fact there are people streaming across the southern border, Fox is outraged.

Charles Vonderheid with the Mid-Iowa Council Boy Scouts of America said Troop 11 learned a valuable lesson.

“We want to make sure they follow the rules. A Scout is a good citizen. It would be a great lesson in civics for that young man and that troop,” he said.

The Scouts arrived home late Sunday from their 23-day trip.

There were 17 other Scouts and three other volunteers on the trip. As of now KCCI has not been able to make contact with any of the Scouts.

A good lesson indeed. When the Storm Troopers point a gun at your head...

You vill obey.

If that boy were a Hispanic teen with a visible #13 tattoo I’m sure that BP agent would have acted in the same way. From behind an MRAP. With a SWAT team.

Douche. Coward. Fraud.

But the scum leaks constantly across our southern border. So if these scouts were LaRaza they would have been alpologized to and given a new gun fast (and furiously)

Troop 11 learned a valuable lesson.

Yes, next time just sneak across the border.
If caught you will be given a free ride to wherever your going and cash to buy new clothes.

Probably the most outrageous thing about this kind of behavior by BP is the fact that they are always “no tolerance tough” on obviously innocent (babies, grandmothers, boy scouts) American citizens than they are on our enemies (Muslims, illegals, terrorists).

This story almost makes me wonder if this really was a border patrol official and not some drug dealer dressed up as one. Otherwise, there was no reason for the agent to act the way he did. If this really was an agent, he needs to be fired and brought up on charges.

I am dumfounded that this happened and no one is going to do or say anything about it.

Also, “Fox said he was told it is a federal offense to take a picture of a federal agent”; what law is that?

The BP agent involved should be fired immediately. Possible charges to follow.

Well, obviously the scout was a White non-hispanic. If he had been dark-skinned and trying to sneak in the country, he would have been welcomed.

Welcome to the fascist USA.

Perhaps some Iowa GOPe representative will point out the difference in Border Guard zealousness on the Alaska Border, where IIRC, there has never been much trouble with that demonstrated on our Southern Border.

Of course, one supposes that it is possible that the Iowa Boy Scouts (probably potential white men) were infected with some plague or other that had pandemic potential, endangering women, children, and members of minority groups.

I predict that no "Republican," whatever TF that means, will say a word.

I suspect this BP agent simply had a bad attitude.

He couldn’t be on the Mexican Border helping illegals get on the bus, handing out cash and vouchers to Obama Kamps, and welcoming them to Amerika.

So it was a US border guard, as it was from Canada into US. When I’ve gone back and forth from the US to Canada, it had always been the US who questioned me most. And that was years ago.
