Some schools may serve all students free breakfast and lunch

HUMANSVILLE, Mo. - If you've ever tried to concentrate on an empty stomach, you know how much of a relief a new federal school lunch program may be for some families. In some low income areas, every student may be able to eat free breakfast and lunch.

In Humansville, about 90% of the kids that go through the lunch line are already on free or reduced lunches. But the Community Eligibility Provision may now allow all Humansville students to get free breakfast and lunch.

For many in the small town, it's likely a challenge to cover the grocery bill.

"A few years back, there was a company in Humansville that closed, that impacted a lot of our families financially," says Humansville Superintendent Tammy Erwin.

With the percentage of families recieving food stamps or considered homeless, Humansville is easily eligible for the new breakfast and lunch program. 72% are "identified students" for the program, which requires at least 40%.

"It's very exciting. Anything that you can do for your community and your parents," says Erwin.

Humansville parent Sabrina Young says, "I think that would be great, because it helps us as parents. They get good food in the morning to start school with and then get good food at lunch time. And I don't have to worry about where my son's lunch is coming from."

The federal government is one gigantic EBT Card. Be it corporate welfare or direct welfare.

Uh...Sabrina...why can't YOU provide your children with that “good food?” You brought your children into the world. It's up to YOU to take care of their needs, including feeding them.

The Federal government is nothing more than the drug dealers you see in the hoods and streets of any Urban City. Doling out ‘free’ samples of their wares. Until...you get hooked and THEN comes the real impact.

Follow our rules, guidelines and edicts or we will take away your fix that you’ve used to hire umpty dozen extra administrators, counselors, nutritionists who have to listen to the Moose, life coaches, diversists and who the hell knows what else.

Like some ditz said in an article here yesterday, the taxpayers won’t have to pay for it. They’re going to get the money from the Federal government. LOL! And these are the people who are “teaching” are kids. I feel sorry for all of those “unaccompanied minors” who are coming here from Central America. They don’t know it yet but they’ve gone from the frying pan into the fire.

That seemed probable, given today’s political climate. But I looked it up and found this at wiki:

“Humansville was named for James Human, who settled in the area in 1834.[8] During the U.S. Civil War, the town was home to a garrison of 150 federal troops. During Shelby’s Raid of 1863, Confederates surrounded and overwhelmed the outpost, leaving 17 killed and wounded.”

EBT benefits should be reduced accordingly.

These people are being duped.

NO such thing as a free lunch. With the money the taxpayers in town are spending on these “free lunches” they could buy themselves a lunch that would actually taste good and not end up in the trash....with extra money to put in the bank ( or hide under the mattress)

Sounds good to me. If you’re not feeding your kids with those benefits, what ARE you doing with them?

It surprised me. Sounds like a good name for a SciFi story.

James Human meets Andy Android.

What do these people use their food stamps for?

1) EBT amounts are NOT reduced for the free meals the offspring consume at school

2) I read one story where EBT is spent on cases of cans of soft drinks which are then hauled to another store and sold at the back door for 40 to 50 cents on the dollar. These cans are then sold to other EBT users and the cycle repeats.

If you eat lunch, and you didn’t pay for it, then somebody else paid for it and didn’t even get the crumbs.

There are seven billion sad stories on this planet. I don’t have the money to pay for every sad story a Democrat hears. The Democrats are going to have to toughen up.

“What do these people use their food stamps for?”

The food stamps have a good deal of fraudsters. EBT cards are like money, they use them to get money, instead of food at crooked stores or sell the cards to others. They falsely claim the card was lost in the mail or lost & Uncle Sugar issues replacements and they sell those too. The money goes to bad habits & bad lifestyles, not the kids.

I’m not sure why the EBT card can’t screen out unhealthy foods and drink like WIC benefits.

If you've ever tried to concentrate on an empty stomach...

I do better when I'm hungry. After I eat I like to nap.
