Not in my backyard: US sending dirty coal abroad
WRAL ^ | 7/28/14 | Dina Cappiello

As the Obama administration weans the U.S. off dirty fuels blamed for global warming, energy companies have been sending more of America's unwanted energy leftovers to other parts of the world where they could create even more pollution.

This fossil fuel trade threatens to undermine President Barack Obama's strategy for reducing the gases blamed for climate change and reveals a little-discussed side effect of countries acting alone on a global problem. The contribution of this exported pollution to global warming is not something the administration wants to measure, or even talk about.

I’m betting it’s cleaner than the crap that China’s burning.

You can see that it really isn’t about Global warming, it is about hurting America and forcing us into higher costs.

If they burn it over there, they will burn it without the pollution controls. Only the US cares about so called man made global warming.

And it also shows, that just having America make draconian changes in our energy and coal use, will NOT impact global warming.

Even if for sake of argument we accept that we should “fight global warming”, we see here that there’s no impact on that, by America making all these changes.

That’s probably 80-90% of the liberals’ true agenda overall, right there.

I don’t think reducing CO2 has much to do with the progressive energy agenda: It is: (1) Making their followers feel like they are doing something regardless of reality; (2) Gaining power over their citizens; and (3) Creating huge opportunities for funneling citizens money to cronies.

Plus, imagine the energy burned in the form of diesel fuel to get it from WY/PA/WV to ship it half way around the world.

These stories are suddenly popping up by coincidence? No.

This is the next chapter in the regime's effort to destroy the US coal industry. If the industry can stay alive by exporting, then exports must be shut down. Saving the planet and all that . . .

Have you ever noticed that "environmentalists" of all countries single out the US (and to a lesser extent Western Europe) as evil devastators of the environment, meanwhile mostly ignoring much greater pollution in non-western countries?

For example, they're up in arms about the US drilling for oil, but never seem to attack Arab countries for their petro-economies. They demand absurd regulations on automotive exhaust in the US while China poisons its air, water, and soil in ways that the US hasn't seen in about 50 years.

All I can conclude is that this isn't about "protecting the environment" so much as it is about bashing the US and other western countries for daring to keep their own economies and intrastructures developed.

Coal is a major resource on Earth, and all nations need major amounts of heat resources, especially during major conflicts such as wars.

America was a major resource supplier to Europe during WW-II, primarily because America wasn't being bombed out of existence.

All fuels are "dirty". They either form in mud or grow out of it.

"Clean" fuel is a ridiculous illusion brought about by people who do not get dirt under their fingernails keeping the lights on.

When all is done the latter-day Eloi will starve without those they consider Morlocks, despite the fact we wouldn't eat them on a bet.

Cost considerations have made that transport about as efficient as it will get—unit trains and materials handling facilities are designed to reduce cost, and fuel consumption is part of that picture.
