US government, military research program helped identify experimental Ebola treatment

The experimental drug used to treat two American aid workers who have been infected with the Ebola virus has never been tested on humans before and was only identified earlier this year as part of an ongoing research program backed by the U.S. government and military.

Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol have each received doses of the drug, known as ZMapp, aimed at boosting the immune system's efforts to fight off Ebola and is made from antibodies produced by lab animals exposed to parts of the virus.

The Associated Press reported that Writebol, 59, had received two doses of the drug while being treated in Liberia. She was en route to the United States for further treatment early Tuesday. Bruce Johnson, the president of SIM USA, the Charlotte, North Carolina-based group that Writebold works for in Africa, said that she was walking with assistance and had regained their appetite.

Johnson told the Associated Press that he was hesitant to credit the drug for Writebold's improvement, saying "Ebola is a tricky virus and one day you can be up and the next day down. One day is not indicative of the outcome, [but] we're grateful this medicine was available."

Brantly, 33, who arrived at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta for further treatment Saturday, also was said to be improving. Besides the experimental ZMapp dose he got in Liberia, Brantly also received a unit of blood from a 14-year-old boy, an Ebola survivor, who had been under his care. That seems to be aimed at giving Brantly antibodies the boy may have made to the virus.

There is no vaccine or specific treatment for Ebola. Those who have survived the virus in the past have done so on their own.

At its core this is good old-fashioned antiserum technology, which has been in use since the liquid from cowpox lesions was used as a preventative for smallpox. This was first done in 1774.

Good improvisation.

“infected with the Ebola virus has never been tested on humans before”

The reason it’s never been tested on humans is thanks to the FDA, one of the greatest government sponsored killing machines created.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

...EBOLA ACCIDENT...
...Accidents happen , that’s why they call them accidents , HOWEVER , it was no accident which allowed these infected people to enter the United States !!!
It is my opinion that the person or persons that allowed their entry be arrested immediately , the pilot of the aircraft be arrested and all personnel immediately responsible for their treatment be placed in quarantine, !!!
The Dark Ages was brought about by Jihad Infidels that sent the dead and dying bodies of infected people to the shores of Europe by the shiploads...Biological Warfare is nothing new !!!

“Besides the experimental ZMapp dose he got in Liberia, Brantly also received a unit of blood from a 14-year-old boy”

Mixing potions is not a good idea IMHO

Also, a few days ago MSM was reporting how Brantly courageously gave the only dose of the experimental treatment to Writebol instead of himself.

The ‘story’ will keep changing as the truth about the new strain, The two doctors, and the serum become more exposed.

NOBODY has asked the obvious question. So I will.

HOW DID the pharma/research company manage to have a serum that would work on the NEW MUTATION of the virus , and not on the common forms of Ebola that these two doctors were allegedly dealing with ?

IS THE FOLLOWING POSSIBLE ?

These two doctors, who are the only ones from the US who were willing to take the risk (and the money), were part of the pharma/research testing of the new Ebola virus. They could do human testing in Africa without question. They could have patients with ebola (albeit a new form) and they would go unnoticed among the OTHER ebola patients.

All went well until the NEW virus mutated even more, and infected the two doctors. The new serum had been used on the test patients already. So, the doctors demanded that the ‘company’ bring them back to the US and give them the new serum treatments.

We will find out that the so called ‘politeness’ between the two is all made up. Pending death can cause people to react in strange ways.

One of the doctors attempted a transfusion, hoping it would help.

The US (and ‘company’) did not want to bring them back to the US, but the serum was ‘here’, and the two doctors could spill the beans on the whole illegal and world-changing project.

You create the new form of a virus, and the ‘cure’, and you have the world in the palm of your hand.

Unforunately, the virus didn’t go along with the plans, and so now we end up with this mess and the ‘changing’ stories.

So it’s a Franklin Graham/Evangelical Christian conspiracy, and what two doctors are you talking about?

Sounds familiar: Outbreak (serum E-1101 & Motaba).

Similar, anyway.

The only thing that stuns me is the blatant disregard for public safety and bringing the 2 of them inland when they should have been quarantined to a ship (that was sarcasm...your plot works very well). Well...'stun' is a poor choice of words, sarcasm or not. Absolutely none of this really surprises me at all, save for the fact that 'domestic terrorists' haven't yet been blamed for... (wait for it...).

There is something that really bothers me about the way some of the articles are written. First of all, there may not be a vaccine or ‘’cure’’ for the disease, but there IS treatment!

Diabetes can’t be ‘’cured’’ without a pancreas replacement, but there IS ‘treatment’ for it. Treatments include dietary measures, pills and/or insulin shots taken at the right schedule along with meals at the right schedule.

The treatment for Ebola includes cleanliness, IV fluid replacement therapy, and most likely, medicines to reduce vomiting and diarrhea (fluid loss) and I don’t know what else. Other than that, until the ‘miracle cure’ came along, that was all they could do. But still, it all involves ‘’treatment’’.

People don’t survive Ebola ‘on their own’ without some sort of ‘treatment’, even if it’s only fluid replacement therapy. Diarrhea and vomiting alone can kill you PDQ even if the disorder/disease isn’t ebola. I’m sure some of the ‘treatment’ includes fever control as well. Still, it’s a treatment.

I find myself frustrated with so-called ‘reporters’ who don’t have even a small command of the written language, or definitions of words.

Please forgive me, it’s my pet peeve.
