The United States has thrown its weight behind Iraqi president Fuad Masum after he was accused by prime minister Nouri al-Maliki of violating the constitution.

US state department spokeswoman Marie Harf said in a statement: “The United States fully supports president Fuad Masum in his role as guarantor of the Iraqi constitution.

“We reaffirm our support for a process to select a prime minister who can represent the aspirations of the Iraqi people by building a national consensus and governing in an inclusive manner,” she said, echoing an earlier comment made on Twitter by deputy assistant secretary of state for near eastern affairs Brett McGurk.

“We reject any effort to achieve outcomes through coercion or manipulation of the constitutional or judicial process.”

he wouldn’t be trying this if we had based a military presence in Iraq. Although, the whole point would be mute, because the pickup truck driving ISIS creeps would have never dared to enter Iraq in the first place.

so, yeah, I’m sure the stern words of the little blonde that plays much hotter than she really is will scare malarkey (sic) back into his senses.

So someone in this administration is now concerned about a constitution?

Can we get a guarantor of our Constitution?

It’s not the JV running the white house, It’s the VJ- as in Valere Jarrett. Still a third stringer, though.

Yeah, it’s not like he tried to tell his parliament whether it was in session or not.

It was too early. It’s not anymore. Bet on al-Maliki (and Iran).

One thing you can be sure of. If the Obama admin says this, you know they’re supporting the wrong guy.

Exactly. If Deacon Blues were gambling with his own money, he would have gone Chapter 11 a long time ago.
But federal money, hey: a few key strokes on a computer, sell some more bonds and call the mint!

The irony is TOO sweet. The Klown supports a coup because the guy wasn’t following the constitution of his country!

The United States has thrown its weight behind Iraqi president Fuad Masum...

This is surreal. Iraq is half a world away. Yet the US is making decisions on who should be holding power there. It's almost like the King of Norway endorsing someone in the US presidential race.

Yes, I know that there was an Iraqi War, and we have interests there. But this whole thing strikes me as being off-center.

If the Obama admin’s throwing their weight behind the guy he’s bound to be a communist and/or a terrorist.
