Just watched a great 1943 movie, “A Stranger in Town” about a young guy who is going against the entrenched, corrupt political structure in a small town. Frank Morgan (played the wizard in “the Wizard of Oz”) gives a great speech at the end that encapsulates this thread;

In 1943, people who spoke as he did were known to be patriots.

Today, people who speak that way are crucified in the media as TEA Party zealots.
