My dad was in the Army at Fort Lee and I was born at the Fort Lee army hospital. This kind of thing didn’t happen in 1954.

As soon as he got out of the Army we moved back to Tennessee and I have never seen where I was born. I have heard that I’m not missing much.

Ft Lee has grown a lot the last 10 years. They were talking about reducing it’s size about that time but it worked out they increased its size and added a lot of buildings.

My father was at Fort Lee in from the summer of 1961 until about October of 1963. He was a computer programmer, and was involved in the commissioning of the SAGE air-defense node located on that base. It was located in a very recognizable building: a large concrete cube about six stories high on the outside (and somewhat less than six stories high on the inside).

We lived in Petersburg. I attended first grade in the Dinwiddie County public school. I went to a Catholic school for second grade, and a week or two of third.
