Deadline writes “Shortly after they uncovered evidence of prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib, CBS News producer Mapes and former CBS News anchor Rather thought they found the story of their careers as Bush’s reelection campaign was getting underway and he was facing competition from Democratic candidate and Vietnam vet John Kerry. The story, based on documents purportedly from the files of Bush’s deceased National Guard commanding officer, alleged that the president’s powerful father, then an ambassador and future president, made calls to put him atop the list for the Texas Air National Guard.”
With the Republicans outraged, CBS began an internal investigation to see whether the documents they used to slander Bush were false. Mapes was fired for her lapse of judgment; she still maintains that the documents were real and Rather and Mapes were targeted by conservatives.

So: one of their minions was caught falsifying a story intended to take down a Republican president. The situation was so clear-cut that she and her boss were both fired from CBS News. She responded by writing a dishonest, self-serving book attempting to justify their actions. The book was instantly accepted and sold aggressively by a major publisher - despite the author's complete lack of credibility. Now it becomes the basis for a major motion picture that will define how the clueless remember their slander and lies - as a heroic attempt to tell the truth that was silenced by hateful conservatives.
A few years ago, FR might have been effective in countering the Left's narrative. Those days are gone.
There will be a ‘deep throat’ who REALLY knows the truth of how evil W is, and Rather will be the Woodward who just gets a little carried away in pursuit of the truth.
hmm. I could be wrong but those Bush era anti-war films made a pittance. Guess these big money financiers are ok with wasting money that won’t return a huge profit.
I suspect they are going to omit the role Dan Rather played in the equally fake “Secret prison” scandal where one of his peons got caught running his own prison in Afghanistan. They were going to pin that on our forces.
