President Obama said he plans to address the nation on the threat posed by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) on Wednesday, vowing to "hunt down" the terrorists.
Obama said in an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press" that the U.S. will track down ISIS "wherever they are."
“What I'm going to be asking the American people to understand is, number one, this is a serious threat,” Obama said about the Wednesday speech. “Number two, we have the capacity to deal with it.” “This is not the equivalent of the Iraq war,” Obama says, emphasizing he won’t advocate for the deployment of U.S. ground troops.
Over the next few months, Obama said he is optimistic the U.S. can "blunt the momentum if (ISIS)."
"We are going to systematically degrade their capabilities. We're going to shrink the territory that they control. And that's how we're going to defeat them," he said.
Obama added that the strategy for handling Iraq and Syria is to "hunt down [ISIS] members and assets wherever they are."
"I will reserve the right to always protect the American people and go after folks who are trying to hurt us wherever they are," he said.
Despite the immediacy of the Wednesday's speech Obama said no "immediate intelligence" indicates any threat to the U.S. by ISIS.

This ought to play badly with his base and with the isolationists of both parties.
Always late for the party, while the rest of the world was talking about and doing things, this assclown is out golfing and looking up excuses to tell the people of this nation.

Methinks the country is tired of his endless, trite and empty speeches. They are tuning him out.
Obama calls to mind an age old proverb:
“An empty vessel makes the loudest sound”
This is nothing but political posturing. CYA in case something bad happens.
We already know what the threat is. We don’t need you to do the “ah um me my I ah um” speech.
But he said that ISIS was “JV.”
Then why did he do nothing about it for at least a full year?

Exactly. This is like someone telling a crime ridden neighborhood that there are criminals in their midst.
Polls clearly show that most people disapprove of Obama’s job performance. Only the media has a 90% strong approval rate.
The problem is not calling them traitors and putting them before a firing squad.
Everything he does right now is against a backdrop of the Nov elections. The polling data must have been favorable for attacking ISIS. Obama will do just enough so that they can say they are tough on terrorists. But not too much (boots on ground) that they piss of their moonbeam base.
Nobody mention that Obama created ISIS by arming anti Assad forces in Syria...
It is is is not ISIS. Pronounced is-is not I-sis.
