Rep. John Barrow (D-Ga.) has cosponsored Rep. Phil Gingrey's (R-Ga.) Nuclear Family Priority Act, H.R.477, that would eliminate the extended family visa categories (e.g., married sons and daughters of citizens, etc.), thus ending "chain migration" as recommended by the bipartisan Barbara Jordan Commission in 1997. Current immigration law allows U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents to sponsor non-nuclear, adult family members, creating an endless chain of mass legal immigration.

As good as this sounds, how very brave. How about sending back the 25 to 40 million idiots from other nations already illegally here?
The first good news about a Democrat I’ve heard in a very long time. Well done Mr. Barrow.
This is a smart Dem, the only way to get what the other Dems want is to disarm the public’s concerns by making it appear they are pragmatic.
Barrow(D-GA), McIntyre(D-NC) and Nick Rahall(D-WV) are usually the 3 who vote with Steve King.
McIntyre managed to beat Chamber maiden Rouzer in 2012.
Barrow said more than half a million illegal immigrants a year enter the United States, and that depresses the wages of citizens as well as immigrants here legally.
“This is not a victimless crime,” Barrow said. “The victims are workers who have a right to be here.
A general willingness to hire illegals - rather than a need for temporary immigrant labor - is driving the influx from across the border, Barrow said.
“I agree w/ @SenatorSessions. We need enforcement 1st in any #immigration reform bill. Trying what has already failed isnt an option.”

@downwithtyranny :
“Earlier today someone suggested Democrats use @SenatorSessions words as an ad. Cowardly bigots like Barrow is why they cant”
I think there’s some truth in that.
I don’t think the chain migration part has a snowball’s chance in hell of getting approved though.
