SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday signed the nation's first statewide ban on single-use plastic bags at grocery and convenience stores, driven to action by pollution in streets and waterways.

A national coalition of plastic bag manufacturers immediately said it would seek a voter referendum to repeal the law, which is scheduled to take effect in July 2015.

Libs in action.

They were the ones driving the paper-to-plastic revolution a quarter-century ago.

They got what they wanted, then discovered it really wasn’t what they wanted.

Another Lib EPIC FAIL.

Considering all the problems California has, Jerry Brown is signing bull like this and that ban on the sell of Confederate merchandise by state-owned entities.

Priorities, you see.

I, like most people re-use those bags for garbage, cat litter, etc. So now I’ll have to buy bags just for that purpose. Way to go, Democrats.

It’s illegal for a business to give a
gift to its customers. The state
defines what is cocaine and what is
talcum powder. Now, anything goes.

The goal is total state control and taxation,
not a clean environment — just as “health care”
is not about health.

And you can STILL get the evil paper bags .... only now you pay a dime per bag. So paper is bad unless you pay the store extra. And no one will convince me that the grocery stores weren’t 100 percent behind this BS law.

1. No paper bags. They kill trees.

2. No plastic bags. They kill fish.

3. No cloth bags. They harbor dangerous germs.

4. No bags. Only buy what you can carry away in your arms.

Go to a restaurant supply store
and get 1,000 of the bags for
$15. These legislative idiots never
thought of, or cared about, the other
ways consumers will get what they need.

Save the trees, go plastic, they said. Now they want to kill trees again.

There will be an increase in food-related disease with leakage from leaky meat packages, broken eggs, etc.

It is the entirely predictable outcome of single-party rule. They can't tackle the real problems facing California because their policies caused them so they have to find other problems to tackle.

I’m all for this.

I love puffing up a paper bag then popping it.

So the ban only applies to single-use bags? Just color the bags green and mark them “Reusable” - problem solved, no? :=)

Same here. I use the plastic bags for wastebasket liners in the bathroom, and to bring my lunches in to work.

From the article:
"... the simple elegant solution is to bring a reusable bag to the store," Padilla said."

The problem is that reusable fabric bags can get filthy, spreading disease. You cannot expect people to keep them clean.

And even if people keep their fabric bags clean then you've got environmental issues concerning electricity (where are the global warming alarmists?) and detergent used to wash them.
